Liam40
Hi Everyone, I’ve seen a Focus Titanium 1.0 EcoBoost 125bhp on a 16 plate that I like, but it’s in Race Red colour. I’ve had 2 Escorts in Rosso Red colour before and the red faded, so I’m a bit sceptical about it! I know it’s probably all down to personal preference, but, is there anything wrong in buying a Race Red coloured Focus? Are red cars better these days? Would you have one? Wondered if you could give me your thoughts on this, and perhaps if you have Red Fords, could post a pic on my post please. Thank you, Liam. gillyallan
I think red more than any colour needs to be kept on top of by waxing. It does seem to oxidise by the sun.I've also wondered if they are better these days so gonna keep eye on thread.Nothing worse than a badly faded red car and you'd love to show a streak on it waxed up.Sent from my SM-G800F using Tapatalk
JW1982
Just like all metallic or pearl effect Ford colors the solid colors are also protected by a layer of clearcoat these days. The paint quality these days is also better than it was in the days of the old Escort. Solid red paint like Race Red will still fade a bit but not nearly as much as you experienced on the escorts.
F0CUE
As long as you make sure you wax it shouldn't do that. A good soft clay bar to remove Road film with a Polish and wax every so often will keep the red colour vibrant. And I agree with @JW1982 paint has come a long way since the escorts.
wilto
This is my MK2.5 2010 model in Colorado red, these was taken about 18 months ago, it still looks great when it's cleaned, don't have the time to polish it on a regular basis, I think I've used waterless wax on it about 4 times since I've owned it. I usually take it to the hand car wash about once a week and use the power wash in work the same. I owned a Mondeo in radiant red before this car for 9 years, and apart from some clear coat peeling the paintwork was still spot on when I scrapped it. Hope this helps 👍
FatHead1979
Personally the only badly faded red coloured cars that I've seen in the last few years have been Vauxhall's and they were approximately 10 years old. Fordwise I've seen a couple of red MK3 Mondeos round my end and the colour still looked nice on both of them.
Jethro_Tull
Modern water based compounds don't fade like the reds of olde, and even they didn't fade if kept clean so dirt and UV didn't react together to attack the surface.
drsdriver
Washed & polished my race red today. Last week I waxed it. Always keep on top of it and it will shine for years.
