Spanner service light coming up following induction kit install

Featured Replies

Got a bit of an issue I'm a little desperate to solve on my 1L Red Edition. Tried installing an Airtec stage 2 induction kit over the weekend but the service light comes on about 5 minutes into driving and the car loses power and the intake stops working. Put the original airbox back in and the same thing happens. I'm certain everything is connected properly and tightened and can't see anything obvious. The auto start stop seems to be turned off too which is odd. I've disconnected the battery & also tried it with the ignition on - bit stuck for ideas now. Would really appreciate any help, cheers.

Induction kits dont work for a start they can actually harm your engine.
Boy racer mistake NO.1

I speak from experience just as I was about to buy one my good friend who is an expert Lotus mechanjic and worked for
McLaren racing team told me to avoid buying one!

You have probably moved a wire or caused a short circuit.
Get an OBD tester off ebay or Amazon that will tell you the error!
Or you can use the secret menu option on your dashboard and find the error - post the code and we can tell you what the code means!
I posted a thread a few days ago about accessing the secret diagnostics menu on Ford Fiesta!

Every motorist should have one in their car these days with modern cars the way they are.
This one is quite a good cheap model and you can interface it with your pc to analyse and export the data scan!

But you did get some help i posted what you need - without knowing more of waht you did its impossible to tell.

I would give the secret diagnostics menu a go and post the engine error code then we can tell you what is snafu!

And I did mention that I had considered fitting one myself years ago  - some would say I still am and I probably would agree with them!
lol

No serious mechanic mentions induction kits on any forum its just asking for a mick take dude!

I hope you have learnt your lesson now you have snafu'd your car - we all learn from mistakes thats life!

I only found out about the secrfet menu myself a few days ago and tried it out so here is my text file i used on my smartphone when i checked it out!

01. Put your car key. (do not turn the ignition)

02. Hold the trip meter reset button.

03. Turn the key to the "On" position.

04. After 10-15 seconds the display will show TEST mode then the gauges will do a full sweep.

05. Start the engine after you release the trip meter button.

06. Then you can check one by one the status by pressing the button.

Code Meanings:-

gAgE – gauge test (needle sweep)
LCD segments test
LEd – indicator tests (all on, individual on)
r – instrument cluster firmware version details
Er – instrument cluster firmware version details
E – instrument cluster firmware version details
r – instrument cluster firmware version details
dt, none – DTC codes
SP MPH – vehicle speed in MPH
SP MPH – vehicle speed in km/h
590028
tA – engine speed
t90020
od – odometer roll count
F – fuel level sensor signal
F9
FL – fuel level sensor signal in HEX
FP
15 C – probably ambient temperature
bt – battery voltage
dtE – distance to empty fuel tank
rAF – probably average fuel consumption
A0, A1, A2, A3, A4, A5 – readouts from analog sensors
P01, P02, P03, P04, P05, P10, P11, P13, P19, P20?

I am in good company then!

As a matter of fact he is one of the best mechanics I have ever taken my cars to when I cant fix the problem - He even fixed my Lotus when the official Lotus dealership in Glasgow said they couldnt find any fault and virtually everyone I know has high praise for his work - he is very expensive but you pays for what you get with John - He is one of those mechanics like Edd China that does the job 101% and never has a return.

Make sure the MAF sensor is the correct way round and the plug is in correctly.

I didn't realise it was some kind of mechnanical skills contest?  My degree is in Automotive Science and Engineering, hence how I knew that McLaren use Pipercross filters (indeed, more than half the F1 grid do) and Lotus supply their cars with items from ITG.  Hell, if you knew as much as me perhaps you could retire at 47 like I did ;)

I would agree that in general an induction kit is a waste of time and likely to actually be injurious to engine performance.  However, that's not a universal truth and there are some excellent performers out there, usually the expensive, highly developed ones for specific applications.
