Dirty Air Filter and Oil

Featured Replies

Just looking for some opinions really

bought my new car and as most places do, they said they would service it before I pick it up.

I was just curious to make sure I have no oil leaking anywhere so I kept an eye on the oil level for a while just to get used to the car a bit and see if theres any problems so I can get them sorted whilst still fresh at the dealership.

When I looked at the oil its pretty mucky, its not black but its definitely not the golden syrup kind of colour that the oil I'm used to seeing is, so I thought I'd check the air filter to see what that is like and again it isn't filthy but its pretty dirty for something that was only serviced 3 weeks ago and I thought oil and air filter is some of the basic things for a service even if its a small one, but as my car is at 15k and has only just had it first service I would have thought it would need a full service where everything should have been done, but seems not in my case.

Can anybody comment on this?

Ford would service it according to their service schedules, every year/per 12500 miles an oil change + oil filter, every 3 years air filter etc.

So unless you specifically asked them to change the oil/filter and air filter it would not have been done.

I would expect an oil and filter change if they've stamped the book.

Air filter is only every 30k/3 years though as Adam says though.

As it has never had a service and they even had to find a new service booklet for it as they obviously didn't have one for it, I would have thought everything should be done but its understandable that the air filter wasn't.

'Everything' really is just oil and filter on a service for a 15k car.  Plus maybe pollen filter as well.

This is the service sheet for a 1 year/12k service on a 1.0EB White edition.  I dread to think what Ford charge for that!

I've also got the same issue with the service book missing the PDI and first service.  I thought it'd be easy enough to trace the service history through the dealer network but it hasn't been possible unfortunately.  My car is 6 years old and has covered 44k though so I made sure to do a full service when I got it.  The service book stamps are more for when I come to sell.

the thing that first made me wonder about it was the day after I picked it up I ran out of washer fluid, isn't this something they would do? its not exactly much to do is it. luckily its easy to do for everyone else too so I did it but seems strange they didnt do the washer fluid

Service sheet doesn't say anything about topping up screenwash tbf.  So if they tested the washers and there was some fluid in there, they probably don't add any.  You were unlucky that it ran out the next day though.

Unfortunately I seem to have been unlucky with everything to do with the dealership but oh well, I’m happy with the car atleast

I've always had my Fiestas serviced by Ford Sandicliffe since 2006 and they have always topped up the washer fluid bottle.   May just be up to individual dealers though and they may treat me better due to the fact they know me due to the number of cars I've bought off them.

Our mk8 we picked up a couple of weeks back has no dealer pdi stamp or anything in the service portfolio, when we asked about it, they said it is all logged on their systems, so that will do for us.

Until you go to sell it and it doesn’t have any stamps in the book, say to the buyer “it’s all on fords system”, I know I’d walk away.

The oil gets dark very quickly after oil change when car is driven some km.

Oil will turn darkish colour very quickly after oil change if the car is driven at all. Not sure about air filter, but could imagine that it also gets a bit dirty pretty quickly after change if the car is driven some.
