2004 1.25 Fiesta Timing Belt Replacement

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

My 2004 1.25 Fiesta is coming up to the 100k Timing belt replacement interval. I am wondering what will need to be changed when I go around to the replacement. Will the timing belt just need to be replaced or will I have to change the water pump etc and/ or anything else? Any tips is appreciated, thank you :)

Go for a timing belt kit incl waterpump.

I think I am correct in saying the water pump is not driven by timing belt, so the reasoning that you may as well change the water pump now because if it goes later it means the timing belt has to come off again does not apply to this engine type. water pump is driven by the alternator drive belt (fan belt to older people like me) which means it is much easier to do separately at a later date.   However, if you do decide to change the water pump now, bear in mind if you buy a cheap one it may fail before the original one may have done if you had left that on there. So putting a cheap new one on in place of a good quality ford one already one there that is not showing any faults may be false economy

Most people I have done these belts for have opted to leave the original pump in place.

I would advise if you do replace it though, to get a genuine pump/gasket and bolts.
