Engine Malfunction Service Now

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I have bought a 2013 Ford Fiesta from a used cars dealer. Everything looked good and well. However when I was going back home from the dealer a "Engine Malfunction Service Now" warning message came on as well as the spanner warning indicator came on the dashboard. The car did not lose any power, and I came home, talked to the seller and asked to take a look at it when I bring the car for MOT (today). So I brought the car to them, while driving there the same thing happened, same warning message and indicator on the dashboard again no loss of power or anything. After doing the MOT and supposedly trying to figure out what is wrong the dealer said "sometimes when the car stays parked for a long time, and then after starting to drive this warning comes on, we deletes it and it should not come back again" I was alright and went home, after driving like 15min the same thing happened so I turned around and went back to the dealer, I think they did a diagnostic or something cause they had that computer thingy. After looking at it, the service guy was like "there is nothing wrong, the warning indicator means that the car needs service but we the service was already done not long ago, a few months back" he also said that problem may be "break lights plug" he was like "we did a proper reset of the system, the spanner indicator may or may not come up again, if it does, bring the car again and I will change the plug". While going back home the same thing happened and I went there again and had to leave the car there.

Has anyone had any similar issues? I am not a cars specialist, but seriously I do not think that the issue is break lights plug...

i think the dealer doesnt know much about fords. the warning message has nothing to do with having it serviced.petrol or diesel?

Petrol

oh yeah, just checked your profile. a 1.25, very rare to have a problem with that engines electronics. also that engine doesnt have a service reset procedure after doing a service.

just need to leave it with the dealer to sort out and if it happens again  reject the car and have your money back.

Yeah, I think if it happens again I will return the car. The weird thing is that when it happens, I cant notice anything wrong with the way the car is performing. Everything seems normal.
