the word modification to the insurance companies is a license to print money. tinting your windows will see your insurance go up especially if your a young driver.

I work for privilege insurance, the only thing that will not change ur insurance premium is optional extras from brand new, only light changes e.g. stripes that wont change the price but there are insurance companies that specialise in modified cars where the price shouldnt change, what changes were you thinking of?

That would depend to which windows you are referring too.

If you tint the front 2 door windows theres a great chance you would be making you car illegal to drive and if you had an accident and the insurance assessor comes to view the car you may well find your insurance company decides that your insurance is invalid (even if the accident is not your fault) because of these illegal tints, and this could leave you having to pay a heavy repair bill.

Should you tint the rear side windows and rear window, this might be termed by your insurance company as a security measure and they may reduce your premium. Unfortunately I somehow think the money you will save will not be anything like the cost of having the windows tinted in the first place.

Considering most insurance companies give next to nowt for having a tracker, I doubt tinted windows will make much difference.

having your rear 3 windows tinted also makes you less likely to see things, insurance company kicks you in the b4lls...

Also tints would make the car more prone to theft probably

Don't think any mods will decrease you premium except a tracker or some thatcham approved security gear

Changing the footwell lighting to red LEDs probably doesn't affect anything, and looks pretty snazzy to boot!

Lol! I wonder if they even list that as a mod? Give them a chance and they'll put the premium up lol

Would void your warranty though - LED's aint specified in the manual - so just swap them back over to the bulbs if the lighting system croaks :) :)

it will be in there somewhere, its a modification after all! even if you stick a badge on your car, you 'should' let your insurance know. they wont let much slip through the net.

Absolutely anything that enhances your car in any way, whether cosmetic, functional, lighting etc, can be classed as a modification and if an insurance assessor had to check the car over for example after a bad traffic accident, they 'could' list the said modification and decide to void the insurance if they hadn't been notified of it. Even if the modification would have had no effect on the accident etc.

A lot of people (including myself in the past) put mods on cars and simply risk it. I had a Mondeo LX which was a full ST200 replica, lowered, uprated brakes, engine power mods etc and that was still insured as an LX!

But the risk is down to the individual. I wouldn't do it to that extreme now.

I didn't tell the insurance company of the rear lights, then I wrote it off, and they decided not to repair, and I went and took them off, and put the old ones back, then as I went from 03 to 06, the lights were different, so I didn't bother putting them on, and sold them!
