New Fiesta, Dual Dash Cam Installation?

Hi guys,

I have got a brand new Fiesta ST-Line 5 door on the way, I was wondering if anyone has had any luck in wiring a dual dash cam into the car so everything it tucked away nicely. As it is my first new car, I am not really confident in installing it blind.

For the last few months, I have had it installed in my Clio through the cigarette lighter, but if possible I would want to hardwire in a battery backup in the Fiesta to allow parking mode.

The camera is this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wide-Angle-Supercapacitor-G-Sensor-Recording-Dual-Port-Black/dp/B075T8H9XJ

and the battery backup I am looking at is this http://www.car-dvr.co.uk/cellink_b/powerbank/cellink_neo6.html

Cheers

I haven’t wired in a duel camera into the wife’s fiesta, just the front and it is really easy. Also very easy to route the wires to the rear camera, I would do it above the headliner rather than under the carpet.

Have you considered a power magic box rather than the battery you linked? It’s a quarter of the price and a better option IMHO, but each to their own [emoji846] if it were my money I would look at buying the Thinkware F770 dual channel camera, at the moment it is £229 on their website and the battery monitor is built in. It’s HD quality and has gps logging too. Again, that’s just my preference but it might be worth a think? You even get the memory card thrown in, it only needs to be plugged in to power at the front and the wire to the rear cam carries the power. You get a brand new set up for the same price as the battery. The F770 has just been replaced by a newer model but tbh it’s an excellent camera for the money and not outdated in any way.

Not a bad camera as they hide away very well and neat as i have the same sort of wedge type which i always go for (A119)and as you say its a new car you don't

really want it sticking out like a sore thumb.

Wires should run ok as mine were very easy under the roof lining from camera to fuse box area and the same with the rear one as i have gone under my sill plastic

and center console and i cant see a wire,i never use parking mode so cant comment on that as i would have to do same way as you a battery thing.

Does your rear camera connect only to the front camera or does it have its own power?

my rear cam connects to the front cam, both cables go up from the front camera position to the headliner, they are pushed behind the headliner, then along the top of the A pillar trim on the passenger side, the power cable goes behind the flap of the door seal till it can be fed behind the dashboard and connected to the rear wiper fuse using a mini piggyback fuseholder via a 12v socket (my camera has a 12v plug on the cable)

the cable for the rear camera carries on being pushed into the gaps between the headliner and pillar trims till you get to the rear opening. I fed my cable through the rubber sleeve that the boot door cabling goes through, if the camera plug is straight it should go through ok, mine was a right angle plug that just wouldn't go through so I ended up cutting the wire, feeding it trough the other way and rejoined it by soldering and heat shrink. The cable comes out of a hole I drilled in one of the plastic covers above the window, the camera is at the top centre of the rear window, about 200mm of cable is on show but fixed in place with small adhesive cable clips that came with the camera.

if the camera needs its own supply either run the cable in the same way back to the fusebox or run it inside the bootlid or trim pieces and tap into the wiring for the central locking.

No need to use a battery, just get a power magic unit, even if you connected the cam to a permanent live circuit it would take a long time to drain the car battery, most park modes just put the cam into standby till the cam senses a knock to the car.

I have an F770 dual channel wired in my car with the cables tucked in (although I got a electronics company to have a go at that). Very neat job and the camera is very good. I recommend it if you're still looking for one.

Thanks for all the replies guys, some interesting food for thought.

Can I ask which company did you get to do it? I'm open to the idea of buying a new dash cam, I mean mine wasn't overly expensive and the girlfriend has been eyeing one up, so I could just fit mine into her car.

Sure, place up in north Sheffield called Source Sounds. They have a good reputation but don’t think they’re a chain as such.

Hi, I know this is a while after you posted originally but I’m wondering if you managed to install your rear camera in your Fiesta? I’ve got a 2018 Fiesta and can’t work out how to get the plastic cover off the boot door to feed the wire through from the window to the rubber cable covers! Any advice would be much appreciated!

I got mine installed by a company in Nottingham. I can confirm though, that the plastic trim in the middle section of the boot door does come off and allow you to feed the cable through there. I will try get a picture later today.
