New Exhaust required - So deciding to Upgrade it (mk7 Zetec S)

Featured Replies

Afternoon All,

Long time listener, first time caller...Need a bit of advice. My exhaust has a hole (centre section) in it so I'm deciding to upgrade it instead of replacing it and probably getting an induction kit to compliment it. I've been looking at this package http://www.pumaspeed.co.uk/product-Fiesta-Zetec-S-Ti-Vct-Power-Upgrade-ZS140-with-Focus-RS-Dual-Valance_959.jsp&pic=1. or maybe the mountune MR151 or whatever it is

The Pumaspeed one lists the following:

  • Full Manifold Back Exhaust System by MILLTEK SPORT.
  • - 4-1 Manifold
  • - Decat Centre Section
  • - Cat Back Exhaust System
  • ----- 14 bhp Proven -------
  •
  • Piper Cross Cold Air Induction Filter System.
  • ----- 6 bhp Proven -------
  •
  • Smooth Induction Pipe by Samco

Seems pricey though for an induction kit and exhaust system. But I love the twin exhaust and the valance (like in the picture).

Questions:

1. Would a decat centre section fail an MOT?

2. Has anyone converted to twin exhaust for cheaper? if so what did you do and how much did it cost?...I'm not hands on and wouldnt be able to fit an exhaust myself with no tools.

3. I've considered Induction and Exhaust but might do some other things to improve performance on a budget, would anyone recommend doing anything else (not big jobs like turbo)? Before I get a remap

Pretty sure it changed the other year to where it will fail if the cat has been tampered with or removed where one was fitted from factory.

Depends how MOT friendly your garage is. I know people who haven't had a cat for over a decade and never failed an MOT yet another who failed the first one. That was more down to emissions though, so I guess that's the main thing. A decent tuning company should be able to sort that out though when they do the map.

Make sure you have done any supporting mods that the mapping company might specify. Depending on the map, the mapping company might say to change the intercooler, have a free flow exhaust system etc. For example with my 1.6 diesel engine I can get a stage 1+ remap which adds 30 more hp and 70nm of torque however the mapping company specify to have at least a decat.

In terms of MOT you could be cheeky and buy a second hand cat and fit that on for when you go then put the decat back in. 😝

Check out Zaustworx on Facebook they sell a rear silencer delete for the 1 litre ecoboost engine. They have a video on their Facebook page of it fitted on a fiesta and it sounds nice. It's not dual exit but you could check it out plus it's cheap.

Thanks for the replies.

Ideally I want it to pass MOTs without changing parts about, I read a few bits from what Luke seems to be if there was one there before then you need one there for MOT.

Its tempting to get the mountune MR155 or MP140 or the pumapseed one I posted initially as its ALOT easier but really expensive.
I'd have to buy a rear valance thingy separately then the exhaust etc.

Sounds not really important for me, want the best gains I can get and for it to look alright with a dual big bore exhaust.

I've dropped Longlife an email for a custom system because a colleague recommended them to me and they are nearby to me (South Wales). I asked for best performance, pass MOT, dual exhaust.

What induction kits would you recommend?
Have any of you done some other things for handling? or cosmetic?
