Wow I find these terrible returns to the gallon,I have always had diesel cars in the past.

The wife will be using this Zetec 1.6 petrol to get to work and back 16 miles motorway and 3 miles A roads each way 5 days a week i was hoping for more than the 36 -40mpg most seem to be getting from petrol engines

If I had known this before I would not have ordered a Zetec s 1.6 Petrol, with modern engineering I expected around 50MPG across the board, my old escort van diesel returns over 50mpg and its 12yrs old. shaped like a brick and as not had a service in 12mths.

The wife's current car a Merc 270 Diesel returns 41 across the board and is a heavy 270 cdi, my BMW 330D used to give 52mpg and I give it loads of heavy right foot, if the little Fiesta drinks like petrol is going out of fashion I will be getting shut and returning to a older German diesel

07' 1.4 zetec climate

Live about 2 miles away from work, so short trips every day bar 40mile drive on a tuesday.

Have yet to see 300 miles on the trip on an average fill up. Generally about 250-280 nearish to the red.

Have had about 350miles from a single tank once as i went on a long drive of about 45mpg going average speed of 67mph

Mk7 1.6 TDCI i'm getting 38.9 mpg and about 350 miles to a full tank around town i think this is excellent considering my focus st was doing 18.8 mpg costing me £50 a week to and from work 14 miles aday now i'm spending £20 a week and loving it :D

I drive the 1.6 TDCI. I'm still on my first tank :) but so far I have driven 150 miles and I still have 3/4 a tank left. Currently averaging 47.8 mpg but it seems to be rising as it was 38 mpg the other day. How long does it usually take for a new engine to reach it's optimum?

Around 49 mpg if its a long clear motorway run, or shorter trips to work I get around 45 mpg. I drive carefully and usually try to eak out every mile so I get 375+ to a tank quite easily! Not bad for a Zetec S so I'm happy!

I have a round trip of 40 miles, mostly on dual carriageway Mon-Fri

During the weekends i'm running around town to football or people's houses and the likes.

I can get 350 miles from a full tank, with a boring drive, but if i'm a bit more heavy footed then it's around the 300 mark

I believe i get roughly 42 mpg's...

II am currently in the process of seeing how many miles I can get out a tank..... currently done 470 and averaging 65.8mpg.... my dash reckons I've got another 142 miles left..... so I'm hoping to clear 600 miles to a tank. I will be driving very close to petrol stations near the end lol.

I'm driving a 1.6 mk7 tdci zetec s.

Are you doing like 50 on the motorway or something?? And how many miles has your car done?

I have about a 1/4 mile to get out my town, then a few miles on country roads, then motoroway for almost 25 miles then a mile of town again, then back again at end of day. I was trying to sit around 60-65 for the first half tank, then found 49 was more economical (give or take for up and down hills).

My car has done just over 30k

I'm actually planning ahead to make sure I get the 600 and get filled up no probs. I'm gonna have to finish the tank on Wednesday, coz I wont have enough to get all the way to work Thu morning, so will go a wee drive up and down duel carriageway for 20 miles or so.

Hi Folks.

Good to see my thread is still alive after all this time (1 year and 5 months lol)

G/f's 1.25 style 60ps is getting on average 43mpg and the most miles from 40 litres of petrol was 410 and it had another 20 miles in it.

The Best mpg was 47.0 dead on and achieved 396 miles from 38.30 litres

We record every fill up

1. Thank you for this thread

2. You are so sad for starting this thread and recording everything since then!

3. I am going to do some unscientific experiments on the benefits of remaps for MPG....... currently I'm not remapped and messing around with results..... remap will be nxt year

why is he sad for starting this thread? It's a valid discussion as nowadays more and more people are trying to conserve fuel and the more miles per tank the better..

I think you will find that a lot of members on this site record every fill up and the MPG from every tank of fuel..I'm one of them!

Calm down mate. You obviously lost your sense of humour when you bought your notepad and pen to start documenting mileage.

Lol, I've learned a fair amount about how to drive economically since I've done this experiment. Here's the pics I took when I parked up earlier today.

Lol. No secrets. But some basic rules which are very obvious when you think about em.

- don't put the accelerator down any more than just tickling it, slow acceleration and gear changing to get up to speed

- push a little bit harder when going down a hill and slow coast or slow off going uphill (dont coast downhill unless there's a sharp turn at bottom that youre gonna have to brake for

- preempt everything and coast to stops if possible, eg lights, roundabouts, corners etc, try never brake, you're only wasting the fuel you used to get to that speed.

- and the most important of all...... be patient.

i hope I haven't hurt any feelings by my comments.... if I have then you really have a sheltered life and should be protected with bubble wrap and cotton wool incase any may look at you wrong.

Or if I didn't offend you and you took it in good banterful nature, then well done. youve proved you're human.
