Squeaking Dashboard and Servicing

Hello,

My Fiesta (2014 Ecoboost) was recently in for it's annual service and I pointed out that there is some squeaking and rattling coming from the dash board (drivers side near the window). However, the car has now been returned with this not having been fixed. I have a 5 year warranty on the car, so it's still valid. Should this be covered by the warranty or even examined during a normal service? Or can they use the wear and tear clause.

The car has only done around 33,000 KM as it's mainly used for short commutes.

I doubt a "squeak/rattle"  after 4 years would be covered by warranty  - have you had someone sit in the passenger seat touching the panels to see if you can locate where its coming from?

Thanks for your quick reply. It's more or less directly in front of the driver just below corner where the windscreen meets the dash. You don't get it all the time but usually when between 70kph and 110kph.

I will ask the dealer again, I did opt to buy the extra 5 year warranty with the car... so one would hope it still has some validity 🙂

A pillar trims are notoriously squeaky. Try resting a cloth against it while you drive to see if it stops. If so you can usually put some tape inside the edges to fix it.

Whether or not it's covered by your warranty will depend on what's causing the squeak/rattle. If it's something mechanical or bodywork it should be covered but if it's the interior trim it most likely won't be covered. A standard 3 year manufacturer warranty would only include the trim for either the first 6 or 12 months (not 100% sure which). I'd check your warranty documents or contact Ford customer service.

Also it's not something they would examine on a service, the most they would do would be to make a note of it if they noticed it during the service and unless it's something immediately obvious they would need more time to investigate it.
