Single Knock !!

Featured Replies

Looking for your thoughts,

I have a MK7 1.4 TDI Fiesta, recently I have noticed a single knock just as I come to a quick-ish stop and a single knock as I set off. Doesn't do it if I come to a gentle stop, but I did hear a couple of knocks as I came out of a parking space with full lock on the other day, but  since I have gone to an empty car park and drove full lock in both direction at various speeds and nothing ??

I would describe the knock sounding like a hammer knocking against a chassis, sometimes it is louder than others and my wife said she felt it in the passenger foot well.

I have replaced both Track rod ends and near side ball joint mid March, but I hit a pothole last month that ruined the NSF tyre and knocked the tracking out a good way !!

Any thoughts??

Thanks Mike

Hard to pin point a knock over a message but check both coil springs on front.

Try just biting clutch in first to get the knock and then try reverse leave handbrake on and let us no outcome

As in try not to move vehicle

That pothole might well have done more damage than you thought.   Check the front suspension and springs.   The Fiesta has a habit of breaking springs and I've had it happen.

While you are driving along, probably in 2nd, if you jab the accelerator do you feel the knock from the car as it jumps forward? Same as going over a speed bump do you feel the knock?

I have tried the car parked with hand brake on and letting clutch out but no noise.

If I set off steady then go to second I get the single knock but not over speed bumps.

I honestly thought there might be a spanner left under there as sounds like something is rocking forwards and backwards to cause the knock.

I'll have a look at the springs tomorrow

I asked as my last Ford had a knock under acceleration etc. I was told it may be a broken engine mount... after investigating and getting nowhere, by chance i found It was the cat bracket that had detached. The cat, having nothing to hold it on the flexi pipe made a knock or thump on the underside of the car when accelerating or going over speed bumps.

Springs all okay, I'll try to get under tomorrow have a look at the cat bracket, but I had thought engine mount was a possibility?

Car due mot in July, might take it this week see if it throws anything up.

Car is on PCP which ends in September, just don't want to spend much before it goes back!

Okay,so the knocking is getting worse (I think), I have checked drop links, track rod ends, ball joints, springs and top mounts look okay, nothing loose on exhaust.

Knocking does sometimes happen over speed bump, no knocking when at biting point stationary, to me it definitely sounds like something is rocking forwards then backwards.

Could it possibly be the Gearbox top mount that has gone ?? and is there any way to check this without taking the battery and every thing out to see it from above ??

Turned out to be Suspension arm bolt that had worked slightly loose !!
