MK7 61 Plate 1.25 Fan Issues.

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm looking for a little bit of help in regards to my cooling fan as I've had issues with my engine overheating the last couple of weeks.

My coolant level is fine, my fan is working when I turn it on manually through the air conditioning but it won't come on at all when the engine gets hot. I'm wondering if this is an issue somebody has had before?

Cheers

Maybe a new thermostat? Look it up on google if you don't know what it is, as I didn't until recently.

thermostat controls the coolant flow through the radiator. when cold it is closed and blocks flow through radiator to enable quicker warm up. when hot it allows coolant to flow through radiator to reduce heat.  The thermostat does not control the power supply to the fan.   There will however be a heat sensor somewhere which will control elec supply to the fan. I do not know where it is.  On old cars like Fiesta Mk1 it screwed into the top of the thermostat cover.  But things have got a lot more complicated.  On my Mk1 Fiesta the fan was failing to activate so I wired up a switch on the dashboard so I could turn it on and off myself according to how the temp gauge looked. However I'm not sure your car has a temp gauge.  But if I had your car with this problem and it did have a temp gauge I could be tempted to do the same again. Nothing worse than getting stuck in a queue on a motorway on a boiling hot day knowing that it's only a matter of time before the coolant boils.  But it might be a simple fix, new heat sensor or just corroded connector or something. Someone else on here must be able to tell you where to look
