clutch probelms please help

Featured Replies

hi folks, I'm an oldie and my brain really is finding thinks hard to remember what to do

my lads 57 plate 1.25 petrol fiesta, has a clutch problem, since this morning you have to press the clutch pedal to the floor to be able to change gear, it was ok yesterday (roughly 75% down to get clutch baiting point),

brake fluid is ok, can't see or feel any brake fluid on clutch pedal arm, pedal feels solid (not spongy)

not sure where to look now, any help please

there is no clutch at all now, bleed the clutch still no clutch

so I think its a gearbox out job, but is there away to test to see if its the slave cylinder or thrust bearing or pressure plate etc ?

flushed the (brake) fluid complete, still getting very small bits of black in last drain of fluid ( think the black bits must be the rubber seals in the cylinder,) still no clutch if engine running and car at stand still

But if I start the car with it in gear and clutch pedal down, starts and moves off ok, drove round the block went up and down the gearbox using the clutch no problem, But as soon as I stop with engine running I can't get it back in gear, so I have to put it in gear clutch down start engine then it moves off as normal, how comes its ok once its running ?

When you’re stopped is your foot on the brake? Try putting the handbrake on and taking your foot off the brake and see what happens.

why ? what do you think it will do ?

took it to the local garage I use,  clutch pedal pressure was fine, so it was a new clutch job

changed me £330 no vat, (good clutch kit is £100-£130) so £200 labour, not worth me getting stressed doing the job at my age
