Power steering fluid leak

Featured Replies

Hoping someone can give me some advice - I am trying to repair a 2007 Fiesta which is leaking quite a lot of power steering fluid. The leak appears to be coming from where the pipes join the steering rack - there's a kind of plate that is bolted to the rack and the pipes go in and out of it. It's hard to tell whether the pipe itself is leaking or something else. Has anyone had a similar problem? It's very awkward to get at it to have a proper look! I am reluctant to buy a fairly expensive new pipe if it turns out not to be the source of the problem. I will try to get a photo of the area I'm talking about...

A picture of the junction where the leak's coming from:

looks dry up by the pipes. if the leak is from the pipe itself then it would leak quite badly( under pressure) there are "o"rings on the pipes and they can be bought separatly.

I had wiped it dry before taking the photo, as I was trying to see it leak out!  It's seeping out from that joint then running down and dripping off lower down on the car. Apparently the o-rings have already been changed and that didn't solve the problem 😞

Also had a similar issue albeit on a Focus a couple of years back or so.

Slight split in the hose where it entered one of the metal fittings on a connector.

Knew it was leaking as the power steering pump whined when going over speed bumps at work. Within 10 minutes of driving home hose split completely, spraying what was left of the fluid onto the road and car.

Friend has a garage, ordered a new hose but it was a Ford only part so cost me around £320 and that was with very little labour being charged.
