Hi all,

My 2.0 focus had a hiccup the other day when I went to over take someone. The next day it started but was really rough when moving off. Once up the revs a little and is still good to a point. It does not like to be going slow and the revs are trying to stall. I have changed the spark plugs and fuel filter and also checked the timing thinking it may have jumped a tooth but no change. Does anyone have any ideas what may be happening.

It's doing my ***** head in!

Best thing is to check for any fault codes using a diagnostic tool. Hopefully that may point out something causing the issue.

This car will be too old for OBD2 so a generic scanner may not work at all.  Forscan would be ideal though.  Coil pack may be worth a check but that's usually worse when warm.

Dont Know if this will help, but my Mk1 did this when i had her, dont know what it is called but there is a black pipe at the back of the engine which after time goes hard and breaks, i think its some sort of vaccum pipe, changed mine and she run fine afterwards.

  • 2 months later...

I had this with another car. It ended up being a filthy throttle body. The crap in it basically meant the body was fully closed at tick over. So chugged like crazy

Also had the breather pipe break before too
