Stuck bolt, knuckle pinch bolt

Featured Replies

tl;dr

Where can I find a replacement pinch bolt for holding the steering knuckle to the shocks on a mk4 Fiesta?

So I decided to change the wheel bearing on my mk4 Fiesta and it started off well but it's been giving me problems. The pinch bolt that holds the front steering knuckle to the shock absorber is completely stuck and I've tried penetrating fluid, impact wrench, gravity on a breaker bar, and heat. The best I've gotten is a few degrees of wiggle. I tried continuing without it but the bearing completely fell to bits when I tried to remove it. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to get the knuckle off but that means cutting the bolt off. This leaves me with two problems, I have to drill out the remainder of the bolt, which I've never done before, and I have to find a bolt to replace it.

Searching round for the bolt it seems to have a different name everywhere and I can't find one for the Fiesta. I've started to get the impression that Fords all use the same one inside a certain time period but I'd like it if someone could confirm this for me, and possibly post a link, I'd really appreciate it.

PS. I'm not worried about the knuckle. Even if I can't get the old bolt out I've seen replacement ones for £22 online.

Thanks in advance for any answers.

your main dealer should have one☺️
