MK2 Focus Armrest Repair

Featured Replies

Hey guys, the hinge of my armrest has finally given up, the plastic has split right through now and it's fallen off.

Rather than buy a whole new centre console, I am going to give repair a shot.

Just wondered if anyone as repaired theirs before (I am assuming removing the remaining hinge and gluing it in will be best).

What glue type have people used?

If all else fails I might just screw through the base into the console!

I'm not sure what these hinges look like, but perhaps try plastic welding them. I generally prefer it over super glue.

Otherwise there's some 2 part epoxy based plastic glue you can get (can't remember the name now), but it absolutely stinks so make sure to leave the doors wide open.

Agree, superglue makes a right mess of car plastics and doesn't hold either.
Araldite is usually preferable.

I haven't looked at it in detail, but I think I can get the reminder of the hinge out, so I can do it in a ventilated area!

Agree Superglue won't be up to it at all. A plastic welding kit is more money than a replacement centre console, I'll give epoxy a go!

Thanks Both!

Soldering iron will do if you have one.

Did you manage to fix that broken hinge? I am having the same problem but cannot figure out how to remove the arm rest from the center console, can you give me some advice on how to do it?
