TomsFocus Posted July 8, 2018 Share Posted July 8, 2018 The idle on modern diesels is set by the ECU which uses the info from various sensors to determine how high it should be. The problem could be any of these various sensors at fault or even injectors etc. The best thing to do is have it checked for fault codes which should give you a good starting point rather than just randomly replacing things. If you don't have access to codes, changing the fuel filter and putting some quality fuel in may help. You can also try unplugging the MAF sensor. TomsFocus Posted July 9, 2018 Share Posted July 9, 2018 The ECU uses default injection quantities without the MAF plugged in so that can mask other faults. If it is the MAF at fault it'll probably need a new one, they don't clean well and if it's the original it's done well to last this long! G.Man Posted July 9, 2018 Author Share Posted July 9, 2018 Well. I cleaned the MAF. It gave rev counter a small boost as it was running bit low. 2 mins down road it cut out on me Again. Went to garage to get battery checked. It was dead. They checked alternator etc. Thats Fine. battery was £104 fitted. 2 mins down road. Cut out Again. I've never had so many problems with a car. There aren't really any more cheap parts to try randomly. Well, either that or dump it and buy something else! Ideally something newer...don't forget 2005 is 13 years old now, we don't know how the cars been treated in the past etc, not necessarily Ford's fault. I changed it to see if that was the problem. But no. It does have a Lot of miles.over 150.000. 1.6 diesel. Any decent. Fault code readers. I got one. OBD 11. Streetwize . It Dosnt work on my car. TomsFocus Posted July 21, 2018 Share Posted July 21, 2018 150k is a lot for the 1.6 tbh, especially an early one. They suffer with carbon build up in the oilways eventually blowing the turbo. As well as leaking injector seals - have you checked those? If you've got a laptop, get a modified elm327 cable for about £15 and use free FORScan software to check for Ford specific faults.
