Fuel pipe came off

Featured Replies

Hello

I have a 1999 Mk4 Fiesta Zetec and on Saturday while driving at around 60mph on a dual carriageway the engine suddenly lost all power and there was a strong smell of petrol inside the car. I managed to stop safely and on opening the bonnet it was obvious what had happened: one of the quick release fuel pipes had come off the fuel rail. It was the white one circled in the photo. I checked it very carefully but there was no sign of any damge at all on the connector; nothing was split, cracked or broken so I refitted it and pressurised the fuel system by turning the ignition on and off several times. There was no sign of a leak and despite pulling quite hard on the connector it showed on sign of wanting to come off again. I carefully drove home without any further problems and made the same journey again yesterday, also with no problems however I chose a different route because the area where this happened (A21 Gracious Lane bridge near Sevenoaks) has a history of paranormal activity and I thought it best to avoid the same location.

Is this a known problem on these engines and should I replace the connector and/or fuel line? Many thanks.
