Lock v deadlock

Wondering what the point of standard lock is? Why not go to 2nd stage straight away?

I guess there's a reason but I don't know what?

1st stage of locking still gives you the option to open the car from the inside using the internal handle. You can’t do this with the 2nd stage as it activates the ‘dead locks’.

Use 1st stage if leaving someone in the car so they can exit in an emergency, unless it’s the mother in law and then it’s 2nd stage.

Interestingly, the Mk6 Golf (and presumably other VAGs of that era) deadlock on a single fob press, a second press reduces it to normal locking.

Which does make more sense than Ford's double press, as 99% of the time we want to deadlock the car...however I only found this out a month after getting the Golf and had been double locking it in that time.

Oh, is that what I'm supposed to do? Lock the car when I leave it??
