tank121
So last Monday I got my 2012 Focus 1.6 titanium back from the MOT the only issue, being one tyre needed replacing. I'm then got a warning about tyre pressure and so checked them but they all seemed OK and later on the warning went. The following day ’steering assist malfunction service required’ came on, and Imjust managed to drive home. Following a restart the message cleared. Yesterday it returned again at almost the same point in my journey home but this time will not clear with a restart. There's no way, I could drive into work, my local Ford dealer can't see it until Friday. A few weeks ago Halfords replaced the battery to one of own brands. If I put the car into test mode the output voltage is showing around 14.3. Is this a case of the known issue and the steering rack/sensor will need replacing? I've tried disconnecting one side of the battery to see if it would clear it but no. Anything else to try? My mileage is 65000

iantt
I wonder how much they charge for a repair?
Botus
I expect a 1/3 of the price of a new rack.... they used to show on the site... wow if this is the same bit that's pricey http://www.ecutesting.com/catalogue/ford_eculist.html?category=4066&model=
ColW
My 2011 focus still gets the error sometimes on start-up in the morning but never while driving. The pcm update seemed to extend the timer for the rack to kick in before showing the error as it can still feel stiff some morning's without the error appearing. Since the pcm update about 6 months ago I have only had to stop the engine and restart it twice. I did ring bba reman previously to check the price and it was a few hundred at the time. I also priced up second hand steering racks that were similar price but I can live with mine now as it has never happened while driving. Just out of interest does yours have stop/start or just push button start like mine? It may affect the power to the steering rack.
ColW
By the way, if you have only had 1 tyre replaced and checked the pressures then hold down the right hand ok when on the screen to reset the sensors. I have had that happen when replacing tyres.
Flatfour
Does your car have the self / auto park feature? If not I have a known working rack in my garage from a Titanium model that I tried to fit to my Titanium X (which has the self park feature but is not compatible with my model ! ) Give me a shout if you are interested. tank121
So I had the rack replaced and I was offered 2 different racks by the Ford garage, an original Ford one or a cheaper 3rd party one which they said they use a lot. I opted for the cheaper one, I've had the car back a week and noticed a creaking noise at the front of the car moving from stationery. Is this to be expected from the new rack? The only other thing I've had done is 3 tyres replaced on Sunday by tyres on the drive and to be honest Monday was the first time I had no music on and really noticed the noise. tank121
Well car went back to the dealer at the weekend and the rack was checked etc still making a creaking noise though, especially when going slow and reversing and wheel turning a full circle. Total bill from Ford £786

Teece
I have a 2012 Ford Focus SEL. For about a year I have had this steering assist fault happen but have been able to shut the car off and re start. Last week never corrected itself. Could anybody that has had this problem tell me what the problem is and how much it costs to fix. Please?
