Transporting a 16 foot canoe

Does anyone have any advice on how to transport a 16’ canoe on a Ford Ranger Limited double cab truck. In the USA, they have bed extenders which fit into the hitch and either extend the bed by 3’-4’ (their beds are already a good bit longer than in UK trucks) or can be adjusted to provide a support level with the cab roof. These are great for transporting canoes, long lengths of wood, etc in the bed or on the cab roof but I haven’t seen anything like this in the UK. Another possibility is to transport on the cab roof with some sort of elevated rack fixed to the back of the truck bed but the only racks I’ve seen are permanent fixtures whereas I would want to use the rack only when transporting my canoe. Any thoughts/advice would be much appreciated.
