Release handbrake for Front/Rear Pads And Disc Change

Recommended Posts

I plan to change my  Front/Rear Pads And Disc tomorrow. I hear I need to release the handbrake in order to remove the Front/Rear Pads And Disc. If I released the handbrake, How I can ensure I still safe to remove the brake as car might move.

Please help :)

chock the wheels and leave it in gear:smile:

Thanks. How about Front Pads And Disc Change? I need to release hand brake too? Or just rear pads and disc change I need to do that?

Jack the front end up to replace the front discs/pads. The car will hold with the handbrake but if you are in any doubt chock the rear wheels. For doing the rear discs and pads, stick the car in 1st gear and jack the rear end up. Again, if you are in any doubt then chock the front wheels.

In more than 10 years of working on cars on the ground, I've never chocked a wheel yet but you are in control of your own safety.
