Hi,

Has anyone got any experience with lowering their focus and new wheels? looking for a good lowering kit to fit based on you guys suggestions? Also very interested in aftermarket android headunits that other people have fitted and had good experience with. What full sound systems are compatable with this car? any help would be much appreciated.

Thankyou.

If the shocks are good a set of Eibach lowering springs are a good start and for Android systems the xtrons is a great example for plug and play.

Thanks F0CUE, are these something you've experience with yourself? Ill definitely take a look at them now.

My build thread and list of guides may be of interest,

I've lowered my focus with Eibach pro lowering springs which are also available through ford as an optional extra, 20 pounds cheaper from eBay supplier compared to local ford, different set of springs for petrol and diesel models,

After lowering you will need laser tracking alignment done at any good garage to correctly align the camber of the tyres for optimum handling and tyre wear.

All aftermarket headunits are compatable with a steering stalk adapter, I've fitted a Pioneer headunit with reverse camera and 10" HD roof monitor, Xtrons TV tuner with pause&record 😅 also fitted two JL Audio amps a 10" sub and all Speakers upgrade to C3 650 from JL Audio.

I recently fitted an Xtrons PB78FSFP (Android 8, 8 core, 4GB RAM, 2 microSD card slots supporting 128GB cards) I also dropped for the DAB+ dongle.  All went smoothly in part because it's a Ford specific unit that's designed to fit straight into the oval shaped console and comes as standard with a can bus box so the steering wheels controls "just work".  Paid £300 all in including the DAB+ dongle from a seller on eBay that specialises in car audio.

Xtrons PB78FSFP

Because it's plain Android I've been able to install whichever apps I wanted to rather than being stuck with what Pioneer/JVC have decided I should have as is often the case with their own £400+ units.  Now, when I'm waiting for the wife (as in parked up) I can indulge in a bit of widescreen Angry Birds to pass the time! :w00t:

Cheers guys. Your replies have helped alot and I'll let you know how I get on. BTW Lenny that car is impressive, some serious time and effort there, was it all worth it? I certainly think so!

Thanks again.

I am considering lowering springs but have read somewhere that the restricted movement of the shocks would cause the car to bounce over minor imperfections in the road resulting in an uncomfortable ride.  Can anyone confirm or otherwise?

Thanks for the feedback mate,

The forum helped to spur me on to do more things to the focus and its one of those cars that responds well to the mods,

Looking back on it all now; i still believe that it was all worth doing except for the 18" rims, the cost me an absolute fortune lasted two years before fracturing leaking air through the alloy 😳 Tyres were lasting 6-8 months costing a fortune to replace aswell as contributing to "unsprung mass" which reduced acceleration speed and lowered mpg. Apart from the 18" rims I would do it all again especially lowering and the sound system as there both felt and enjoyed on every journey.

I've got my focus lowered more than four years now, the ride is a bit harder but the improved handling is worth the little extra bump,

You will need to go slower than you currently do; when going over speed ramps or known bumps in the road but i think it's worth it for the enjoyment of driving faster through bends and roundabouts aswell as the overall appearance of the vehicle,

Also depends on rim size

If your rolling 16" alloys then you still have a 55mm side wall of tyre to cushion impact from the road, depending on the tyre choice then determines the level of road noise,

I've had Genuine ST 18" x 8" rims fitted with a 30mm reinforced side wall tyre fitted for three years and the impact from the road was felt a lot more compared to the 16" not to mention increased unsprung mass although handling was like driving a train on a track with zero wabble at high speed and average sized roundabouts taken at 40-50mph without throwing out the rear end.

Overall in my opinion the springs are worth it but no bigger than a 17" rim because the overall tyre circumference remains the same wheather your rolling 16" or 19" it's the tyre profile which is sacrificed making for a harder ride.

Further to my Nov 6 post I am looking at the Eibach Pro Street coilover kit, adjustable between 10mm and 60mm and claiming not to alter the OEM ride quality.  Since lowering requires the geometry to be reset, would this be needed every time the height is adjusted and do coilovers solve the hard ride caused by changing only the springs?

The eibach springs only lowered the vehicle by 35mm and required laser tracking alignment to be done, You would need to align the wheels after every adjustment of the kit, I imagine 60mm drop would be quite hard unless your fitting a caster kit to the tower strut allowing the shock to be positioned at more of a 45 degree angle much like a buggy.

I've noticed box's saying all sorts of promises to make a sale, Here's an electric supercharger says on the box 50bhp increase guaranteed to any engine; so seven minutes in to this video; the guys start blaming the dyno for the lack of performance instead of the print on the box 😉

It's a good video and thought I'd share,

Also what I'm saying is; any drop lower than 40mm will be felt inside the vehicle to some degree if driven like one does in a standard vehicle

Thanks, Lenny.  I wouldn't consider lowering 60mm even though the kit goes that far.  As you say, 35mm seems about right.

The coilover shocks may be better suited to that ride height making them a better choice

but I've had Eibach pro lowering springs fitted to my focus since 2014 and done over 100,000 miles since then on both country back roads and motorway with no issues from the factory shocks,
