Possible Clutch Problem?

Check your gearbox oil level.

I have heard that these suffer when the gearbox oil level is low.

Is it easier when the car is warm?

Hey, 1st and reverse are usually harder to get into due to the gear box internal layout. But if its getting bad its more then likely you clutch. If the bitingpoint is high this is also a way of telling its on its way out. Another thing to try is pump the pedal a few times before selecting gear, this will see if you have a clutch fluid leak, if pumpin makes it easier then you have a leak, if not it a worn clutch plate. Let me know how ya get on : )

The biting point is low as it has been since ive had the car. I think I will check the gear box oil level first.

Looking in the haynes manual it suggests using axle stands so when I raise the car to check it, the car will be level. So my first job is to purchase some axle stands lol.

Thanks mate

Hi, the spec fluid you require is SAE 75W90

Ive just bought Comma Gear oil MT75 ESD-M2C186-A

It also says on the bottle, Meets with Ford standard.

And in the Haynes manual it states the Identification code for my gear box is MTX75

will this be ok to use?

Thanks

Oh Well, Ford specs change all the time so if it says on the bottle mtx75 you are correct in that is your box so should be ok...you prob only need a small top up anyway.

Hopefully not, but if it is the clutch, is that big job??

How much would the parts cost?

pretty big job...best to replace flywheel when u in there as they are 'dual mass' and prone to failure the full kit is £409.99 which is clutch flywheel and clutch cylinder

A clutch on its own is £87.86

The top up of oil didnt make a difference. gutted.

Cant aford the full kit at the moment. How much do you think the labour would be roughly to just change the clutch mate?

Thanks
