focusgeoff
Hey all I have a 2017 1.0l Ecoboost focus. I've noticed that pretty much always when i stop (long and short journeys) and turn the engine off, the radiator fan continues to run for almost exactly 5 minutes every time. Is this a design feature or do you think there's an issue here? The car gets to around halfway on the temperature display fairly quickly and stays there. I know some cars are designed to have this run after to the engine if switched off, it just seems odd that it happens all the time, and for 5 minutes Thanks
mjt
I think your car will be fitted with the electric coolant pump that continues to circulate coolant after the engine is switched off to prevent an undue temperature rise in certain areas such as the turbo. Obviously with the car stationary the fan would also need to run to get rid of the heat so I would guess this is the reason but hopefully members with more detailed knowledge will confirm or deny this.
Criot
As far as I'm aware the engine fan shouldn't run, but the cooling pump will run for a good few minutes after stopping the engine.
focusgeoff
Hmm strange. I'm certain it's the fan. I can't really find much online about it, but the manual says it may continue to run for a while in certain conditions, but it seems to be most conditions. Botus
maybe its running too hot and is trying to cool down?

I actually think Criot was spot on. Stupidly I post before actually looking to see if it is the fan. Opened the bonnet tonight, and it's not, so I assume it's the coolant pump. Thanks all
