terminator
Hi ive got a 1998 Escort gti it seems to struggle with power between 2-3000rpm? Can anyone HELP ME????? you will be pulling at straws until you get the car hooked up to diagnostics equipment i have a gti and i had trouble got my engine checked and machanically everythin was ok . but i needed air mass metre idle control valve replaced the breather pipes as they was perished and remap the ecu cos i was running lean. so you see all that above cnt be seen when you look under the bonnet and asuming it isnt machanical it could be anythig
vinnyvangough
Hi there To be honest its sounds to me like you are suffering with a collapsed CAT. If i was you i would remove the CAT and check, possibly replace. Its quite a common problem

Been working on Fords for 38 years and these are new ones on me. Sounds to me just like spark plug problems to be honest. Idle speed control valve only controls as stated the idle Air mass sensor fault would douse revs at about 3k causing missfire. J
