Mk7/7.5 Tax Band confusion

Hi I'm looking at getting a 1.25L MK7.5 but am confused about all the various tax bands, see below:

1.25 Zetec (82ps) 5d (1 Oct 2008 - 21 Mar 2010) - £140
1.25 Zetec (82ps) 5d (22 Mar 2010 - 30 Oct 2012) - £120
1.25 (82bhp) Zetec 5d (26 Nov 2012 - 1 Feb 2015) - £30
1.25 (82bhp) Zetec 5d (2 Feb 2015 - 31 Mar 2017) - £120
1.25 (82bhp) Zetec 5d (31 Mar 2017 - 29 Apr 2017) - £140

I get that the emissions will have changed between the Mk7 & MK7.5 maybe due to weight saving or similar, and again I know the whole tax system changed in 01/04/2017 which explains that, but what are the other changes in 2010 and 2015 (in Italics)?

Thanks

Its not the hp its the emissions all the above should be: £135 (131-140 (E)
apart from the last one which is the new rate

a pre 2017 1ltr Ecoboost 100hp Fiesta would be £0

The rates for cars registered from 2001 - 2017 are shown on the Gov.Uk website and others such as the AA. The only way to be 100% sure is to look at the actual CO2 figures for the specific vehicle on the V5C as individual cars can vary due to tyres, equipment etc though as @Tiexen suggests you would expect them to be in band E, which is £140 according to Gov.Uk.

Thanks, I'm aware it's based on the emissions, so I'll add them on, but why does it vary so much when changers weren't made? I'm not interested in an ecoboom due to the issues, but a family member has a 1.25L 2013 and that is £30 so it does vary.

1.25 Zetec (82ps) 5d (1 Oct 2008 - 21 Mar 2010) - £140 - 133 (Band E)
1.25 Zetec (82ps) 5d (22 Mar 2010 - 30 Oct 2012) - £120 - 124-129 (Band D)
1.25 (82bhp) Zetec 5d (26 Nov 2012 - 1 Feb 2015) - £30 - 120 (Band C)
1.25 (82bhp) Zetec 5d (2 Feb 2015 - 31 Mar 2017) - £120 - 122 (Band D)
1.25 (82bhp) Zetec 5d (31 Mar 2017 - 29 Apr 2017) - £140 - 122 (Band G)

if you have the reg no and do the DVLA check to see if car taxed (which presumably is used by people to grass on their neighbours) it tells you the CO2 figure. With that you can then look at the govt tax tables.

check CO2 number :https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/

Tax tables: https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-rate-tables/rates-for-cars-registered-on-or-after-1-march-2001

eg. if you do this check on my car it gives the info below. As you can see mine is CO₂Emissions:82 g/km  which is free. yippee!   (but there is more to wrong - eg. diesel particle filter so it's not hugely gloatworthy

  • Vehicle make:FORD
  • Date of first registration:November 2015
  • Year of manufacture:2015
  • Cylinder capacity (cc):1499 cc
  • CO₂Emissions:82 g/km
  • Fuel type:DIESEL
  • Euro Status:Not available
  • Export marker:No
  • Vehicle status:Tax not due
  • Vehicle colour:BLACK
  • Vehicle type approval:M1
  • Wheelplan:2-AXLE-RIGID BODY
  • Revenue weight:1575kg

All manual as far as I know, it doesn't specifically say, but it tallies with what I'm seeing on Autotrader, and a family member has a 1.25L on £30 tax which is what I'm after, I just don't get what triggers the jumps for some of them when nothing seemingly changed.

Ford continued to tweak various things over the years to reduce emissions in order to make their vehicles more desirable to the customer with cheaper VED, and also some government initiative that charged manufacturers more tax or something based on the average emissions from all their vehicles on sale.

My 2012 1.4 Mk7 auto dropped into a lower VED band than the same car made a few months before because of this.
