The micro switch for my fob to open the door fell off is the only option to solder it back in or is there a way to replace the whole thing without being costly?

You should be able to either resolder the switch, or buy a new one and solder that one, if the pads on the board are ok.

You can buy the remote fobs on eBay, and just swap components so you end up with a working key - not sure quite where the immobiliser chip is in the newer Ford flip keys, might be able to just swap new board into old key and then program to car.

I concurr.
Done a few keys for friends.
Just swap the boards over and program to the central locking again.
The boards are held in with plastic frames that are hot welded to pins in the case.
Snib the ends off carefully, swap the boards over then refit the frame snd put small dobs of superglue on the pins to secure.

What model key is it?
If you can post up a picture I'll point you in the right direction.
Fyi, the chip is seperate to the board and generally sealed in to the case to avoid bresking / losing it when opening the key case.

Thanks m8 after browsing through eBay I think I have sussed it and only costs just over a fiver for the spare parts. The chip appears to be in the bottom right.
