  • The latest map version is F8 and was released mid week last week. lots of people downloading and installing it with no issues, I plan to do it at the weekend. Takes around 2 hours to install onto

  • Got this downloaded, extracted and ready to roll now. I'll do it Friday. Dying to see if the major road changes are finally in it around me. Was disappointed they weren't in the F7 maps.

I know that, it’s the sync software update that I need Ford to acknowledge before I can get the F8 download. They don’t make it clear that there is no .xml file following the map update though.

I may have to go to Ford garage and ask them to help by plugging the car in, no chance I’m paying for that though. I phoned CS and they just told me it was nothing to do with them and to speak to a dealership.

Not very helpful are they.

On the subject of sync. Any rumours of actual system updates out on test yet. Anyone know?

My new Focus Mk4 (one week old) came with the F7 map, every time I log onto the Ford update site and enter my vin number it tells me I have the latest software. why is it not showing that I can upgrade to F8 ?.

@Stoney871 i'm having a nightmare downloading the map update files...

anyone else having an issue??

It certainly seems hit and miss.
I tried sharing my map update files to Dropbox but it keeps quitting, maybe the files are too large?
Btw, just done my update- 2 1/2 hours in total including a requested ignition cycle half way.
Took forever but may be more to do with my sticks read speed rather than anything else.
One recommendation- if you can get a stick with a read / write indicator light then it does help to instill confidence that the update is continuing.
There were long spells when nothing seemed to be happening but the stick kept flashing so I at least knew it was doing something.

I'm still not able to get the site to recognise my .xml file. I've been trying for days now, will just keep trying I guess

Is ur car within reach of your WiFi? Maybe give it 5 mins if u connected to that and see if it updates the server that way.

I don't update over the wifi, I heard on the grapevine that it doesn't work in the UK... so never bothered.

I had the car connected to my phone as a hotspot today for half an hour today and forced it to check for updates just so it communicated with the servers but it didn't work 😕

You're right, it doesn't but it might have just given the servers a nudge so worth a try, didn't work though

Yeah but after I updated to F8 the Ford servers seem to know I'm up to date so car must have uploaded equivalent of the xml file

So, long story short I was on Sync 3 v3.0 build 17095, which isn't the latest released version... Build 18025 is... and every time I tried, it said it was up to date.  It also never gave me a xml log file...

Finally tonight, I have managed to update to v3.0 Build 18025.  I used a new USB stick, formatted to exFAT, and it even generated a log file!  AND... Wait for it... Ford Sync Update has accepted it!!  Its like all the stars aligned!

Maps is currently transferring to a memory stick... and I will be doing that tonight also!

Its been a long frustrating few months but it seems i'm finally there!

Well I’m now on F8...

Part 1 took 40 mins approx to install, however Part 2 took almost 1hr and a half!

Someone said the 2nd part can be temperamental. Mine was fine and think it was 40mins and 30 mins. Lucky I guess.

Mine was was about the same.

From my experience I'd say that the speed of processing the unzipping and installation varies greatly with stick data speeds.

Got agree with you on that get the best sticks you can dont bother with the cheap ones i tried that when going to F7 maps had to buy a good one in the end, currently  on sandisk 64 gb ultra, oh and dont forget to remove any software that may be on the stick.

Indeed and remove all other usb devices plugged into any other port or the car won't read the updates.

I used a Sandisk Cruiser 8G for the update and have a brand new 64G Sandisk flash drive ready for if I ever manage to get the .xml file to upload properly

Not sure why I decided to check but went on update site and once again saying map update available size 0MB.

Weird. Won't be initiating it. Will see if it vanishes next week.

It would appear ford have corrected this issue... I've had a look today and downloaded the maps for my car again, and the log creation file now appears in the SyncMyRide folder... Whereas it didn't when I originally downloaded it...

Jeez that's a bummer. I'm not downloading and installing all that again. I'll just need to rely on u guys posting for the future F9.
Hopefully my car we reconnect via WiFi and let them know what I've got.

If you still have the downloads... copy the file GB5T-14G386-AB.tar.gz from the SyncMyRide folder on your sync system update, to the SyncMy Ride folder on the maps update... from what I can see its the same file across both.

It will then generate the log file, in about 2 minutes once plugged in... So no long drawn out process again.

It took me two attempts, but you can tell when iyt does it as the process either takes about 10 seconds (no log file written) or a couple of minutes (successful log file generation)
