Hi I’m new here I have an SMax Titanium 2011 with a semi auto gear box. it’s done 78000 miles. I have been informed it needs a new gearbox as a gear shift solenoid has failed but due to the design it can’t be changed. I have been to ford UK to ask for good will and have been told no due to age of car! Ridiculous it’s done no mileage at all. Has anyone had this issue or had an issue where goodwill was initially turned down but you managed to get that overturned? I have been in contact with a gearbox centre who is going to look at it and are not entirely convinced they know the problem which is why the suggestion of new gearbox. They have also mentioned a mechatronic could be possible. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mel

I have been at the same place as you, the year before.
Titanium 2.0 ecoboost.
My clutches were in bad condition, SO
In this kind of thing, ford procedure is gearbox overall, clutches +sensors, almost 3000 POUNDS.
I went to ford Diller and ask for a good will, because my car was 2012 and treated only at ford, the gave me 60% discount barley.
I live in Israel, but discount given by ford through local official diller.

We need to know what transmission you have. What engine is it ? Petrol, diesel ,engine size.

Also, what is the issue you are having?

It’s a diesel 2.0 auto/Manuel. About 4 weeks ago it started juddering for first couple of minutes with first start/drive of the day and then would be fine. A couple of times it lost power and would not go above 20mph then as I say it would all go back to normal.  Then about a week later a couple of times a yellow light came on saying transmission power failure. I took it to a gearbox specialist and they suggested a gearbox service which I did. When tested after it seemed fine. Alas not so took it to a dealer they have done a software update on it which is apparently a ‘recall type thing’. Now I’m told it is a suspected solenoid within the gearbox so new box nearly £40000 and no goodwill!!! Taking it back to gearbox specialist for free more in-depth diagnostics

Good luck with that.
I'll be happy if you can update with your car.

  • 1 month later...

Hi, I have not posted here before but just wanted to share my experience with Ford.

I have a 14 plate Titanium automatic powershift.  Earlier this month I had the warning transmission failure light intermittently come on.  I immediately took it to my local garage who plugged in his computer but couldn't find the fault.  He suggested going to a Ford dealership as their computers could get further into the system.  I called our local dealership to be told I would have to wait almost 3 weeks for a diagnosis!  I then called another dealership a bit further away and managed to get a booking but still had to wait almost a week.  I parked the car up for the duration.  On the morning of the appointment I drove about 4 miles at no more than 30mph before I lost all drive and had to be recovered by the RAC and taken to the dealership.  The RAC man said it was probably a solenoid failure.

The dealership carried out their diagnosis and told me it was a new gearbox.  I spoke to Ford technical and they said because it was outside of the three year warranty they wouldn't cover it.  They wouldn't even offer any goodwill because it was over 5 years old (by 17 days!).  The car spent its first 3 years on Jersey so probably never when faster than 40 miles an hour and has been serviced annually as recommended by Ford.  Best of all, the car has only done 32,000 miles!!!

I am currently awaiting a call by one of the managers of Ford technical but I suspect I won't be getting any support from them.  Ford will not be getting the £4300 from me that they want to fix the problem and they will not be selling any more cars to me either.  My local garage will be getting the work.

I run my own business and if I treated my customers the way they do I would be out of business.

A new gearbox after 32,000 miles?  Something had to be technically wrong.

Sorry for the rant but I'm really pi**ed off!

Nick.
