My son previously had a 2006 1.4 peugeot and reckons he was getting around 200 miles for £30

Hes just bought a 1.2 2013 fiesta says hes only getting 170 miles for £30  ,i thought it might be a bit better as its a smaller/newer  engine or is this about right??

Most of it is city driving and i imagine hes a bit heavy with the peddle

thanks

The 1.25 engine is an old engine design now, it's not particularly efficient and the Mk7 Fiesta is a bit heavier than a 206 (assuming that's the Peugeot model he had?) so the MPG is likely to be about the same between them, especially with a lot of town driving.

It was a 207 but pretty much the same ...We were expecting around the same not 30 miles less

Ah ok, the 207 is around the same weight as the Fiesta depending on spec & options so that should even it up a bit.

Has the Fiesta got good service history and recently been serviced?  Any exhaust or air filter modifications?  Bigger wheels been fitted?  Any brakes sticking?

My Mrs had a 1.25 (82ps) for 3 years or so. She normally only does short local journeys so we generally saw low 40's mpg and never beat 47 even when using it for the occasional long journey. As Tom says, not the most economical design though I did find it was great fun to drive and responded well to a good thrashing which might explain your son's mpg😀, which does seem on the low side otherwise.

Assuming petrol is £1.50 per litre -

The 207 was averaging 46 mpg

The fiesta was averaging 39 mpg

This sounds about right for me, I have a 1.25 (82ps) (81bhp) Zetec (61 reg) and city driving it tops 41mpg. (45mpg for motorway journeys) He may well be a bit heavy on the pedal...

£1.50 per litre!? 😮

Petrol is £1.15 a litre here...even diesel is 'only' £1.25.

Yeh haha, woops I knew there was a 5 somewhere....

Ah, that makes the fiesta averaging 30mpg... (£1.15 per litre)

That doesn't sound right... what does it say on the trip computer?

Should be 40mpg, give or take 2/3mpg in  either direction.
