Ford Focus 2012 1.6tdci Engine Malfunction Service Now

Hi guys, I am a newbie but want to ask advice of an issue that cropped up yesterday.

Car is a Ford Focus 1.6tdci Estate 2012(61), all was working fine until yesterday when the "Engine Malfunction service Now" message appeared. The start stop light is on and also a warning light on the clocks display that looks like a car with skid marks behind.

Car also went into limp mode and I manged to get home ok.

Had oil/filter 3 months ago, with low mileage since. Also new air filter. Passed it's MOT fine in Nov 2018.

Managed to get a DTC code off the display with the help of YouTube and the code is: DTC C19700

Tried searching for the code online with no joy.

Car only has 95k and I have only done approx 8k since purchase in Nov 2017. So really haven't trashed it or anything and only local mileage.

Anyone have any thoughts of where I should look for the fault please?

Thank you.

Needs to have the fault codes read properly with Ford specific diagnostics.  I'd suggest trying Forscan (free programme) if you have access to a laptop or smartphone.

The car with skid marks symbol refers to the traction control/ESP system but the diagnostics should be able to tell us specifically which part is at fault.

TomsFocus, many thanks for the help. Sorry I don't have an adapter for Forscan as Forscan is something new to me. I see I need an adapter to connect to the Focus I found this one on Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06XJ6GQZX/ would that do the trick?

iantt thanks for the link. Just found this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pumpkin-Scanner-Diagnostic-Wireless-Adaptor/dp/B07CV74XZR/ only a tenner and can get tomorrow. I only need to get the error codes, so I can see how much this will cost to fix.

That one won't work.  It needs to have the switch on it to toggle between high and mid speed CAN - essentially that one would only read half of the ECU's on the car.  Tunnelrat is the best supplier of the Ford specific ELM interfaces.

I bought mine back in 2014 and it's worked flawlessly since, but the supplier no longer seems to be selling them.

TomsFocus thanks for the info about the switch. Was thinking about something to link to my ipad.

Anyway found this reader https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B073QGKJ93/ref=sspa_dk_detail_3?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B073QGKJ93

Would this be ok for just reading the error codes?

Will have a look at the injector connectors first.

They are still available, I ordered one through eBay on the weekend.

I didn't word that well...  Mine isn't a Tunnelrat one but has worked perfectly for 4+ years so I would link & recommend it if they'd still been available.

As it isn't, I recommend Tunnelrat as I haven't seen any complaints about them so far.

Cheers peeps for all the input but just had a bit of a revelation using this baby https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01NCI817Y/

Plugged it, worked fine got code P1293, so started looking the injector connectors. Pulled them all off, a good squirt of WD40 and all back on. Broom! Running, so cleared the code and

just went for a quick blast, all seems good at the mo touch wood. Will keep the reader in the car just in case...but for now all fixed and only cost £20 +post :-)

Local Vospers quoted £350+ for an injector 😞
