MK4 1.0 Litre EcoBoost Suspension Noise

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone has had any issues with suspension noises on the Mk4 focus?

I have the car about two months now (from new), but for the last few weeks there has been a really irritating sound from under the bonnet at low speeds after the car has warmed up.

So if I've been driving for about 30 to 40 minutes on the motorway, then slow down coming into the housing estates, there is a lot of creaking and groaning from under the bonnet as if some part of the suspension is under too much tension.

I had it in with the Ford Dealer I bought it from and they told me it was a faulty droplink, which they changed, picked it up...drove it home......and it's the exact same!!!!

I don't recall seeing any posts on here about it, it looks like it's another trip back to stealer for them to replace another part!

Sod that, I'd be telling them I'm not willing to put up with it on a brand new car.  Historically Ford haven't greased rubber suspension bushes where some other manufacturers do which can lead to squeaks and creaks.  The root cause may not be this but it's something to bear in mind, it could be a simple as a dry rubber bush.

Did you ever find the problem with this? I am having the exact same issue with my focus. Dealer is baffled!

Did you manage to get a solution to this?

On my car the RHS droplink was changed which reduced creaking noise by about 75% but they wouldn't changed LHS  link because they couldn't replicate the noise  in the garage which would have meant they would end up paying for it and not Ford. Since then I've driven about 6k and noise has not got any worse so now just ignore it as if can only be heard occasionally when driving very slowly and when manoeuvring and parking. They did inspect the link they removed but couldn't find anything obvious wrong with it eg. slackness so concluded that the joint was under lubricated when manufactured.

Thanks for your reply, that’s really useful. Any idea is good as the dealer seems baffled!

Also in my case if the steering is turned whilst stationary the noise can be heard coming from the LHS wheel area. All rubbber bushes in the area including roll bar were additionally lubricated with grease spray to identify if it was one of them noisy without success.

So I'd you do get it resolved on your car please post it on here.

Will do! Same goes for you. Appreciate the help.
