Focus mk2 1.8 split air intake hose

Featured Replies

Hi all

Yesterday I noticed a bad looking split in the air hose which goes from the air box into the engine intake. Hopefully the attached pic is clear enough.

It looks like a simple enough part to change, if I can just obtain the right part from somewhere. How would I go about finding a part number for this please?  And apart from eBay, what online sellers are the best value for Ford parts please?

this is the first Ford I’ve had, so not really up to speed on where to find info yet. Thanks

Awesome, thanks. I’ve ordered one so hopefully it’ll be easy to fit.

I also replaced the same part on the wife's MK2.5 Focus with a part sourced from ebay.  It's nice and easy to replace although it's a bit tight to get the hose in so you'll find yourself having to use a bit of brute force to get it to bend how you need it to.

I have a mk2 2005 1.8tdci with a possible split intercooler lower pipe but I can't get to see it. Do I need to remove the bumper to get access to the jubilee clip? Hoping it's not the intercooler itself! Can anyone help??

Thanks everyone

Nigel

You'd have been better starting your own thread mate as this thread was for a 1.8 petrol but hey ho.  You should be able to get at the clip from underneath but you'd need to remove the engine undertray and get the car up on a ramp/axle stands etc.

If your getting a whooshing sound in cabin when under power open bonnet, look to top left of engine. You will see a metal pipe then it turns into rubber to make a 90 degree right bend...push your fingers into the inner corner of this 90 degree bend and you'll find split.

Having replaced the lower intake hose I now have power and compression again. I can for the first time hear the turbo working. The sound is not a whooshing sound and the car feels great. Fuel consumption has risen, even though I have a heavy right foot. The car feels the best since I bought it in May 2019.

Thanks for the replies and quotes guys, much appreciated.

The next step is to upgrade the front end, followed by the rear for better handling. I'm looking to change the front driveshafts, wheel hubs, discs, calipers and brake pads as the next step, followed by the rear. I have the MK2 ST225 wheels and want the car the best it can be. The wheels are sized at 225/40 R18. What size wheel hubs do I need for the 320mm discs if they're even compatible with my Ford Focus 1.8 TDCI.
