Engine malfunction light on

I have a Ford Kuga 59 reg. whilst driving the engine malfunction warning light came on with beeping there was no loss of power so parked up 2 mins up the road as I was nearly home on reversing into a parking space there was thick smoke coming from the rear. Left the car overnight no warning signs have come on since today where driver 10 mins down the road and warning light came back on. Parked up and restarted car and nothing. Any help or advise of what this could be? Thanks

Its needs hooked up to a scan tool and diagnostic started from there.

Hi it sounds like the dpf filter is blocked or its the dpf sensor

Hi i have a 2009 Kuga 2.0 ltr manual and car starts then cuts out and on re starting i get the engine malfunction  warning it usually disappears on next start up ford are saying PCM fault at £2800 but surely if car runs perfect it seems odd to require a new unit any thoughts.
