Ford Focus MK4 Juddering Problem

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've been having some irritating problems with my 68 plate Ford Focus for about a month now.

It all started going around corners 1.5-2k revs it was juddering and almost like it was cutting out but power would resume as normal straight after. It then stopped for a few weeks and I put it down to the AC for some reason but it came back and is still doing it this today.

It seems to do it less when the engine is warm & I took it to Ford and they couldn’t replicate the fault as it’s intermittent.

any help?

Juddering around corners makes it sound like the TCS/ESP is kicking in. The computer detects wheel slip and compensates with the ESP.
My 2017 Fiesta does it under the right conditions on corners and acceleration.

I can't see how it would only do it with a cold engine if it is ESP related.

I’ve had no lights come on when it does it and it’s also done it when going in a straight line. Seems to do it most round a roundabout though and turn offs where you would be in the 1.5k-2k Rev range.

Try turning the ESP off and try going to the same places it was happening before to see if it happens with the ESP switched off.

There was another post regarding juddering in a mk4, this could be a similar issue.

Try posting in the Focus section, you'll get more response there;

I have an ongoing and recurring issue which sounds the same. It’s worse when in Eco mode and ultimately ends up with a massive loss of power and amber engine management fault lamp. The car has been in to the dealer 4 times now and there’s and issue with a filter blocking. It was cleaned out about 5k miles ago and has failed again. Dealer is cleaning again today and calling Ford for further diagnostic support. I’m a high mileage user, so may be an early indication of things to come for others!

Which filter is it? Air filter. Mine has started to judder when driving slight power loss then the car surges forwards. Sometimes takes time to start up too
