Upgrading my car radio

Hey guys I have a Ford Fiesta Mk7.5 2017, it has no SATNAV which is a little annoying. I was thinking about two scenerios, I am looking to do one or the other after considering their positives and also the cost.

Scenerio 1:

Buying a stereo and head unit which has SATNAV enabled.

Either this

Or this

Not sure if I could have the Sony one in case there could be compatability problems and also the price seems to be considerably higher. I think if I get one of these I need to buy an adapter as well?

Scenerio 2:

Buy an aftermarket fascia and system

Purchase this

Then find a fascia which will support it, something like this

This is my preferred option since I would want carplay installed as well as the navigation it would have, I am a little in the dark on how I would do this option. Would I just swap the facsias out and then slide the pioneer system in and it works? Will my steering wheel functions work still? Does anything stop working or any extra parts?

If anyone has any info on either of this options then I would appreciate it.

I went with the second option

DSC_0093.thumb.JPG.3b1de2eb87a1278fe1f9da6b76a0429e.JPG

with option 1-second hand units the maps will be out of date so will probably need to be updated before you start.

as well as the facia you will need:

  • FAKRA Antenna Adapter
  • Ford Steering Wheel Control Interface ( cable adaptors and control module)
  • Universal head unit connection lead (patch lead)
  • ford hazard/lock switch (if your current one doesn't look like the one in the picture)

p.s id gets the facia you linked to above and the one in my photo the facia in the video looks ugly and caught the sunlight terribly. the facia in the video is the one i originally installed before reinstalling the current one i have now

I have a 7.5 with sat nav (only a zetec nav though), and if you can live with the facia i'd 100% go with option 2.  Gives you a lot more options and 100% future proof (you don't even have to pay Ford for updates!).  Complete integration with your phone and no iffy Ford (and occasionally laggy) Ford sync.  A second hand Ford unit won't quite be plug and play either from what I understand anyway.  Don't get me wrong, my sat nav and radio are fine, but if I was in the same situation I wouldn't bother.  Even though I think the facia solutions are all fugly!

Ah ok mate thanks for that clears it up, would you happen to know if I still have to cut the bar out where the stereo is? I have a warranty on mine still and I wanna know if doing this or the cutting crossbar thing would affect it?

Yeh the price seems to be worth it if the installation isn’t too frustrating. Would you happen to know if cutting the cross bar out for installing it would affect my warranty?

the crossbar will need to be to be cut out.

warranty will only be affected if ford believes that removal of the bar has caused the issue you're claiming for. for example if the gearbox broke it would still be covered under warranty as the bar removal could not have contributed to it failing.

Are you doing all this JUST to get sat Nav?  Would a Garmin or similar not be cheaper

CarPlay is amazing though but it seems a lot of work to get it.  I’m personally happy with the ford stereo (though it’s getting an amp and sub next week and perhaps another amp and component Speakers in the future) but I rarely use the sat nav!

Very late reply, never got a notification for this thread that I got 2 more repleis... Would the bar actually cause any problems? If not then it's not really a concern, I just need to now find a way of doing all of this cause I have no idea still other than a few low quality videos explaining the basics. (Other than the videos supplied above)

Not just SAT NAV, having carplay in general would be a great addition.

I cut the bar out and had no problem refitting the factory radio back when my Kenwood went in for warranty repair. So can't see having any issues cutting the bar out the factory radio looked no different without it

Do you know if the sync monitor has to still be plugged in or can I completely transfer over to the new carplay enabled radio?

It's a long shot but do you happen to know if this would work in the UK Fiesta? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2016-2018-Ford-Fiesta-Sync-3-Navigation-w-Bezel-6-5in-OEM/254208728887?epid=4026948603&hash=item3b30055f37:g:uRIAAOSwSWRcvrQc&frcectupt=true

I imagine the shape is different slightly or the wiring doesn't match but if it does then this just appears to be the easiest solution, maybe a different one on eBay because I don't think that has the fascia and maybe missing other stuff.

You have to do some chopping of the dash and there’s some loom modifications needed then activation with Forscan. There’s a thread in the US Fiesta forum.

Would you be able to link me to the thread?

Interesting.  I assume things like DAB still work and there isn’t some kind of region tuning limitation with radio frequencies being different in the US?  It’s a shame ford didn’t see fit to give us Fiesta’s with sync 3 in Europe :(.

I know it's been a while but I just need to ask when replacing the head unit with an aftermarket head unit with carplay, will I still be able to access the vehicle settings like traction control, rain detect etc?

If you bought the correct one it should have menu that can access the functions. Even then i suggest you set it up on the original factory unit prior to installling the aftermarket unit.

It seems the photo you posted is different from CT23FD17. May I ask for the details of the fascia panel that you have? Thank you
