Horn location

Featured Replies

May not be able to on the facelift, I had a PFL.  No need to remove undertray at all though, just pop out the plastic centre-press rivets holding the front tray to the bumper iirc...
I'll give it a go thanks, I watched the video and it did look like undertray needed to come off but I'm wondering if I can just undo the torx in the arches and press pins then lever the bumper forward while still connected to the under tray.

I intend to fit the horn to the crash bar at the front behind the grill, not sure if I can just remove the grill to fit the horns and then remove the headlight and fish down for the horn wiring and pull it up to the grill [emoji2371]

I've added some pics to my earlier post now.

The sides of the bumper where the wings are needs to be pulled outwards first, and then forwards, assuming the bumper brackets are still the same.

Cheers

ill give it a go and let you know how I get on

Looking at the pictures I may be able to get to the horn via the fog light opening, I’ll give that a bash too.

Ill probably waste more time trying to be quick lol

Well you can't get to the horn from the fog light opening or from above if you remove the headlight.

You can definitely remove the bumper completely without removing the under tray, it's actually pretty easy. The hardest bit were the four 10mm bolts holding the bumper to the wing, these only have to be slightly loosened but are a PITA to get to.

I've put the front end back together but there wasn't enough light to fit the new horn so I will do that tomorrow as for that I will only need to remove the grill [emoji846] I've already done a quick test to make sure the wiring works, and it does! Unfortunately though I'll need to cut the plug off to finish the wiring off. I don't want to use scotchlock or a T tap, so I plan to try and cut the wiring for the plug and then use spade connectors to run the wire back to the plug and off to the new horn.0ab22f5d7367908e592bcd22837dd593.jpg8af98f9b06ea805d9cb37bdf19284de5.jpg42d6dd47e6575ec770f4d78a90a47d9e.jpg09b308736d46f7b480d8a33a02bb38a3.jpg

The neighbours must think you had a crash lol well done getting it apart will be worth it in the end.

One of them asked me if i had hit a deer lol.

All done now, working well. I was able to keep the original plug too so if I ever want to put the old horn back on it will be easy.

EDIT. Here is the sound clip. The connections are all spade connections which have been covered with heat shrink sleeving, the wires themselves have been wrapped in felt tape and the old plug (which is still live) has been placed in the thumb of a rubber glove and taped up to stop it getting wet.

Looks great and defo will be noticed well done! I wonder if it's easy to do with the MK2.

Thanks, I'm pretty chuffed. I've been putting it off because I've never tackled anything like removing the bumper before. I've stripped the interior before but nothing else. I think it was @TomsFocus who advised that the air dam and undertray didn't need to come off - the yt videos say it does, so I'm very grateful for that info.

I think it would be easy enough on the MK2, only one way to find out [emoji6]

One thing I did find out right at the end was that the wire for the horn actually runs from the OSF wing and can be cut well before it drops down to the horn so you could actually just cut the wire at the top of the engine bay and just remove the front grill lol. Ain't hindsight great!!

Oh well you learn something new each day. You should do a wee guide including the easy way but then again stripping it back down would be a pain.

I forgot to take pictures while I was doing it, the only ones I have are the ones I've posted. I could do a guide from memory though and get some pictures of the location of the push pins and screws if you think it would be worth it

Defo would be worth it but only if you can be bothered not wanting to force you into it lol One thing I would like to know is how you linked the wiring the horns together like that and did you just spade into the connector?
