Potential Purchase - Now the New Owner

Featured Replies

Good morning Folks,

I have the opportunity to purchase a 2016 Focus ST.  Its a one owner car from new with 26k miles.

Are there any gremlins I should know about or things to consider prior to purchase.

Would value you expert opinion, particularly those who own or have owned an ST.

Thanks in advance

Cheers

Paul

I should point out, its the petrol version, 2.0lt ecoboost :thumbsup:

Fill yer boots, I'm on my second ST now.
Had a 15 plate now on a 67 plate.
My 15 plate only had a problem with a wandering headlight (new unit cured it) and only chopped it as I had a too good to refuse offer from my dealership.
My 67 is totally error free since november 2017.
Only downside is fuel consumption but what the heck [emoji6]
Avoid the optional 19" wheels unless your spine is made of granite [emoji57].

Thanks for your reply Stoney,

Strange that you mention the wandering headlight.  As the car I'm looking at, had failed its 1st mot on the 'offside headlamp leveling device inoperative'.

There have been no recalls from new, so all's good.  Going for a second look this week after a valet; also getting it up on ramps for a nose underneath!

So providing there are no alarm bells, should be good to purchase.

Sounds good as long as the light was sorted out.

Cheers Clive,

There'll be a few things that I will ensure have been taken care of.  I've got a list

After a revisit this afternoon. I've decided this is the one. Deposit paid await its prep and call for collection.

Will post a pic once in my poccession. 😉👍

You'll love it for sure.
Welcome to the ST family [emoji4]

Cheers Clive.

Took it for a test drive.  Brought back memories of the M3 e46, albeit the driving wheels are now in the front and are pulling instead of pushing. :thumbsup:

So I take it you had a big smile on your face after the test drive then?

Oh dear! I see the Mk 4 ST is 19" as standard. As my spine is rather worse for wear I hope the suspension is tuned to suit or that'll be off my "to consider" list!😀

Hope so too.
The ST suspension on 18's is firm enough.
Speed bumps make my teeth rattle already.

Just been reading Autocar's "first drive" which suggests that with the dampers on the right setting, ride is a match for a Golf GTI (which my back can live with😀).

19s as you say!

There was a noticible difference on the M3. I had 2 sets. 18s with winter tyres and 19s for the summer (polished rims) looked great but ride was harsh. Although the standard dampers didn't help.

On the test drive was still impressed by the ride on 19s.

I'll see how they go an may invest in a set of 18s

Well, the ST was collected last Friday, on what was an extremely wet day!  However the rain did not dampen my expectation or excitement.

To say I am impressed would be an understatement.  What a fantastic car.  The handling, the ride and performance to boot.  To be honest, the suspension plus the seats more than defer and harshness transferred from the 19" wheels.

I will post pics, but the car requires a wash and polish first

Oh yes and the gear box is beautiful.

Oh and the Mrs' thinks its a great car too!

Apologies, one for not being on the forum for a while and 2 for still not having posted any pics; I've just been mad busy.

Anyway just wanted to post up and say, i'm still impressed with the ST and wanted to include a few updates since purchase.

I purchased from a main dealer and part of the purchase agreement amongst other things was to have the wheels refurbished.  Three had slight kerb rash. Needless to say the faces were refurbished but the backs were still caked in brake dust!! I've since had the fronts off to clean still need to do the backs.  Also the rear near side door had one small dent which the garage said they couldn't do!! I've since had that removed by a paint-less dent removal specialist :) whom I have used a few times in the past.

The paint work still requires a thorough detail as the garage appear to have inflicted more damage through incompetent polishing techniques.  Paintwork is littered with buff marks, unbelievable!!

Once I have rectified, I will post pics :)

Thanks for reading
