Can't open my boot

I have a 06 plate Zetec 1.6 hatchback Focus. I went to open the boot this morning but it won't open. Before I take it the garage, is this something straight-forward I can fix? Is there anything I can try first?

    Do you hear the mechanism when you try the boot only switch?

    Must be the mechanism then you can try taking off the rear trim by getting in there through the back seats then spray some wd40 in there and let it soak for a bit then try again.

    Common problem is the boot handle rubber deteriorates allowing corrosion of the connector inside.

    Can purchase replacement on ebay for under 10 pounds

    And you will need a Philips head screwdriver, flat head screwdriver, a T25 torx and a TX40 torx available to purchase in single form from halfords as saw below;

    I can guide through the process if required, get price from garage if there charging more than 50 pounds to fix then DIY and I'll piece together the images.
