I've got a 51 plate ford focus 1.6 zetec black edition and I'm having clutch trouble and would like to know if it's a cable or hydraulic clutch system so I can narrow down when diagnosing

Thanks mate. I got another couple question related to this: 1) is the hydraulic fluid supplied from the brake fluid reservoir or is there a seperate one for the clutch system.2) when I'm engaging first gear occasionaly it will not select smoothly and It feels as if your pushing it into a solid object,go and try again a it will select but not smoothly it feels lumpy and a vibration through the gear stick and then when selecting reverse you feel a small jolt and it also makes a grinding noise occasionaly. Neither of these symptoms happen all the time but at least once a day. Thanks in advance

sunds more like the clutch is worn no point asking how high the bite point is as they are high anyway could also be a selector fork issue

Sounds like your clutch is on it's way or you need to bleed the cylinder

let me tell you the most important bit first, clutches are a PITA too bleed without a pressure or vacuum bleeder but im not saying that its impossible without :)

there is a bleed nipple on the slave cylinder on the top of the gearbox just under the battery area. you can pump the clutch pedal, hold it to the floor and open the nipple for a couple of second and close it again before lifting the pedal.

pressure or vacuum bleeders are easy!

your gear selection problem may be your clutch wearing out or but there is adjustment on the gear selector rod which causes differcult engagement of gears but it will be hard to adjust yourself and its under the vehicle
