Modified Insurance

Featured Replies

Hi All,

What insurance companies are good if you want to do some minor performance mods to your car?

Thanks

Aaron

Adrian flux seems to take on any mods/high risk.

I was a bit of an insurance idiot when years ago I first got my Celica GT4, I never declared any of the mods the car had. However, a friend eventually scared me into being honest. I then declared the full bodykit, 18" wheels, and a few minor engine mods.  The premium actually went down on renewal and all my additions were officially listed on the policy - I felt alot better...

I have yet to do anything to my car but when I look at quotes with a few mods like remap, exhaust and spoiler extender LV seems to be one of the cheapest on comparison sites. Going directly to them is about 30 quid cheaper still.

Good to know. 👍

Should have added that on LV it asks you if you have reverse cameras/sensors. It also asks if you have a dashcam. They seem to make a difference to the prices. Looking at the terms and conditions it does not seem to say if the camera needs to be professionally installed or not. So basic dashcam might be enough to declare.

Hi.

Please feel free to give us a try for insurance if you wish. If you wanted to PM me some contact details I'd be happy to arrange for one of my quotes team to give you a call back.

Regards,

Dan.

Had a call yesterday. Turned out to be nearly twice what I paid last year for my insurance with out any mods!

I always use to be perturbed when insurance companies do that, except when you think of it, if you crash, to replace specialist bodykit panels, and expensive aftermarket wheels, well, there's your risk. Even though most drivers of 'modded' cars take much better care of their cars than the average Joe...

Yes but the quote was for the car as standard!

Greenlight seems to be popular with some of the modified ST owners. Adrian Flux is branded a joke over there lol.

Silly me! I thought the 'call' you had was for a quote with the mods you quoted, which was twice last years without any mods - getting old isn't fun LOL

Why are you quoting a standard car through a modified insurer?  Of course they're not going to be competitive!!  Their USP is modified cars, it's usually cheaper with Flux to have a few mods.

Thought I would get a quote with out mods to see what the difference would be with the mods. Otherwise I have no reference of if it’s a good price and how much more it’s going to cost!

It doesn't really work like that.  Flux are a broker, they have many different insurance companies they can put you with.  If you start with a standard car and then add mods later you'll be with a standard insurer so it'll end up costing a lot and you may have to move to a different company (within their system) when you add the mods.  If you get the original quote with at least 3 mods you'll be put onto a modified insurer to start with which will usually be cheaper and have no issue with adding further mods at a later date.  I'm not a huge fan of Flux, but thisisn't their fault, there's no chance of them being competitive outside of their specific areas (modified, young driver, imported etc).

Ok I might have to get them to quote again.
