Dab reception

Featured Replies

Hi all first post here....As title says having bad reception problem with Dab radio...it looks as if the roof Aerial has been changed as its a different black to the base part and is short as in 275 mm...i have found a ford one that is 405mm and has a twisted wire along its length

could this solve my problem or should i save myself 20 quid and look at other solutions ??

The DAB antenna is different to a standard FM one, as the DAB signal is transmitted on a different set of frequencies and it needs a different length. From memory our 2015 Focus pool cars with DAB have an externally wound wire on them, but I'm not sure of the exact length.

I just bought the two genuine ford DAB parts, its non amplified antenna and a total joke, it might have been ok when the signal was 3 times stronger in 2009.  in todays world 4g and 5g have meant they dropped the signal, I added an inline amp which has 100% sorted FM and whilst DAB is working its pathetic being 1/2 as good as this ….

did you fit this your self ?

in my merc where I retrofitted the original DAB, the antenna is £750 and doesn't work (due to the naff signals in the UK) so I fitted the one in the link.  Its works 100% everywhere and even impresses Merc specialist being far superior to the original joke Merc pedal.

I also got one for the ford but I can't get the antenna's internal amp powered up to make it function.... it needs the "phantom power supply up the coax lead".  On a Merc you plug in the dealer stuff and turn it on in the software job done.

All the cables out there to provide the phantom power are for the old Din Ariel plug, not the fackra I needed.... if your search "diversity" which seems to be the jargon for antennas that do both on BM or VAG you start to see what you almost need

there this you could try (its probably a million times better than ford effort) but not sure if the angle is correct or it'll look right) if ford had done the job right and put it at the back of the car away from engine interference and used a shark fin... these guys do one that does +20bd for DAB which would be what you really need
