Fiesta mk5 high revs at 70

High all. I am now on my 5th ford and 3rd fiesta. I previously had a mk1.5 focus 1.6 which cruised at 70 at about 2500 revs. My current fiesta which is also a 1.6 is revving at over 3000 at 70. Its affecting the fuel economy quite drastically which is a little frustrating!

Can anybody with a mk5 fiesta with a 1.6 engine let me know where they are revving at 70mph? I just want to know if there is an issue I should be aware of or if it's just the car!

Thanks in advance!!

Should clarify it is a petrol and as far as I'm aware unmolested! It's also only got 45000 miles with full service history so has been apparently well maintained

Just the car I'm afraid. A little fiesta was never designed to be a motorway cruiser.

Try using 6th gear, i'm often forgetting I've got that extra gear, which can be damned annoying on motorway trips.

The 6th gear in a Mk5 Fiesta is reverse, best not to try that one on the motorway...

Thanks guys. Unfortunately no sixth gear! It's a shame, if it had a cheeky sixth gear it would be a monster. No worries, thanks all!
