Mk1 revs up between gear change

Hello!

I have an irritating problem with my focus from 04.

When i depress the clutch the engine revs up to 3000 rpm and stays there until I get a new gear in or when the car comes to a complete stop. I have been able roll for over a minute with my foot on the clutch pedal and still stuck at 3000.

Every thing is fine when the car is standing still but if its in motion, not so fine.

When i approaching traffic light or when im parking i look like an complete idiot reving the engine like crazy.

Anyone know what would cause this?

    Have a look at the idle control valve. It might be stuck open. My 2.0l used to do this. It was on the back of the block. Took mine off and cleaned it with carb cleaner. Beware not to lose the paper gasket.
