auldreekie
Getting a new 2019 fiesta 1.0t active 1ecoboost 125 ps, less than 5 miles on clock in a couple of weeks. First time in 51 years driving I've been able to buy brand new. Do you need to run new engines in these days for approx 500 miles like in days of yore? Not that I'm one for ragging it about nowadays anyway.
DG97
Gentle driving is advised by the manufacturer for around the first 1000 miles. So not much high revving and putting load on the engine and it should be all fine. In my experience, the engine only starts to “loosen up” after around 3000 miles.
Eric Bloodaxe
The owners manual (hard copy and online) contains sensible advice on "breaking in" as Ford describe it, for the first 1,000. After that, as @DG97 mentions, it will keep loosening up for several thousand miles before reaching optimum performance and economy.
