The highest mileage vehicle I owned was a 1999 Audi A4 1.9 TDI with 242,000 miles on the clock when I sold it.  Second to that was our 2005 Nissan Primera 1.8 which had 203,000 miles when we sold it, and made it to around 206,000 before the new owner sold it to We Buy Any Car and that was the end of its story...

I may well have to ask for photographic evidence of some claims...

163k high mileage!?  Doesn't count until it's passed 200k at least!  I've bought a few high milers up towards 200k but only had these two above it.

306 HDi sold on 273k...new owner did another 10k in it as well!  Couldn't compete with the other high miler on the 306 forum though, that one had done over 300k last I checked!  Peugeot used to make decent diesel engine before Ford came along and ruined it with a joint venture...

Bought this 241k Mondeo from a mates Dad for scrap, just needed a turbo actuator and sold it on to tug a mobile chip shop!

I should add, both of them felt very much like they had covered that sort of moon mileage and I certainly wouldn't buy a high miler for long term lol.

Spent a few months creating some guides to keep me busy at home with some purpose.

I prefer miles too; Ireland changed to km in 2007/2008

Although around 60% of vehicles are second hand imports from the uk or northern Ireland; so most people here would have preferred to stay in miles as there vehicle imported from the uk displays it,

Only new buyers and Japanese imports show km as the priority measure

I can't say the Audi felt high mileage, but the Nissan certainly did!  I think German vehicles are far better suited to high mileage driving and they can still feel brand new.

I think you've mentioned high prices in ROI previously? I got a Focus Titanium 2.0 TDCI that month for around £15,300, which was about 18,500 euros then.😀

It's all government import tax over here; even on brand new cars it's around €3000 included in the purchase cost,

Although at the present time since were all Europeans; there isn't supposed to be an import charge for buying goods within the EU which our government chose to ignore when asked why we still have the VRT vehicle registration tax.

Customs will take the car if not registered within 30 days of importing, mate of mine got approached by them they were undercover in Aldi car park they were watching out for yellow reg vehicles asked him to provide information as to when he bought it and asked when it was booked in for the VRT evaluation.

Doesn't matter how much he paid for the vehicle; they make there own evaluation and increase it for leather seats or reverse camera etc.

Make you vomit

Yes I've stumbled across a few ROI car buying sites while trawling the web, advising on the pros and cons of importing a car from UK and potential savings even after VRT.

Odd thing. At the time I bought the Focus there were quite a lot of Focuses around being sold on the then current UK 60 plate at decent prices (all 1.6TDCIs, as I remember). On investigating I found they were actually "used" though extremely low mileage, having originally been registered in Ireland then de-registered and shipped over here. Some friends of mine who are in the business of trading, stabling and training horses for harness racing and do a lot of business in Ireland, have bought several cars from over there, which were a lot cheaper than they could get here.

At one time here you also came across a lot of nearly new cars (usually Fords) that had been briefly used as hire cars in the Channel Islands. I could understand that because of favourable taxation in CI, but never got to the bottom of the Irish cars!

Can't compete with the mileage on here, but I did around 100k totally trouble free miles in 3 years with the previous XUD generation in a Citroen ZX Turbo D. We had a n/a version in another ZX which my Mrs used for her business. She had it for 9 years before passing it on to her brother who got another 4 trouble free years before trading it for a Mk 1 Focus. Very little to go wrong with those mechanical injection cars - shame we've had to lose that simplicity/reliability in pursuit of lower emissions.
