05 Zetec s - Heater blows hot, no cold.

Hello all,

My better half has an 05 Zetec s with only hot air blowing, no matter what is dialed up. They all seem to have an issue with the HCV and we purchased one and set about finding it. After removing all part to find the heater pipes sticking through the bulkhead ( engine side ) but no valve, so it must be under the dash, does anyone know of a how to?

And is this a mk5 or mk6 fiesta? its pre facelift ( huge clear lights, square rear lights ) but I find conflicting info on what version we have, wiki says mk5, just need some clarification please.

Hi,

Only had it for two weeks, did it from then 🙂

The res is half full of pink coolant, stays half way when warm, seems ok.

keep reading about the HCV failing, hence why i bought one 🙂

P.s. I've read and cleared codes, sorted O2 sensor and free'd up the gear selector!  more typical fiesta jobs I hear.

Why do you think there is a HCV ?

Not mentioned in my edition of Haynes, I think there is a flap valve that mixes hot and cold air.

That's a Mk6 if you're in the UK.  The Mk's do get muddled for parts though, especially with eBay breakers!

There's no HCV on these.  I assume you just have manual air con, not electronic climate?  If that's the case, the air is simply diverted by cable controlled flaps.  The cable is probably loose or broken, especially if someone's had the dash out before you.  You'll need to emove the dash fascia to check.

I think the mk5 or 6 issue put me on the wrong path, bought a proper one too, typical.

I can say for sure the car has been apart a few times, it's got the missing screws and fixings thing going on, found the centre consol and foot well panels are just slotted in!

Having looked behind the stereo I can see the white arm moving but access is impossible, I can see two bolts at the back and a acrew behind the switches, does that give me access?

or is there another way?

Was proper gutting stripping all the airbox and scuttle out to find nothing! 34'c heat made it even better 🙂

I'm swapping an e36 compact motor, for one that works, at the same time, so I was shocked to find a 7mm bolt on the fiesta, is that a ford thing? 8,10,13,17,19mm will strip every bmw I have ever owned and that socket was gleaming, never used, small things eh 🙂

Another thing, the engine is a swap from a focus, says "focu 2 1.6" on the inlet, classic scrappy style, I noticed the coolant pipe to the head runs real close to the far left primary ( is it 1 to 4 left to right standing at the bumper? ) and there is no heat sheild, is that a focus vs fiesta issue?  or just wrong pipes? it goes over the rocker, along past the coolant res, not quite how it looks in most pics. 

Ow and the flexi is blowing, something I have fixed myself on other cars, thinking about a centre box delete, is that too load in one of these zetec s's? std back box at the mo.

Sorry for all the q's! I'm a little green with fords and even more so with mk6 fiesta's! ( I learn quick tho )

Make sure you get the right instructions...facelift is totally different to pre-facelift.

If you can remove the stereo without the rest of the dash then it sounds like you actually have a facelift!  Either that, or has someone cut out the bars of the original 'triple stereo' to fit a double DIN?

I must admit, it's sounding a bit like Triggers broom at the moment!   Are you sure the whole engine has been swapped, not just the plastic inlet?  They often get smashed when the cars are in front end impacts, I've changed a few of them!

ow, the previous owner did say he "did" the inlet manufold, assume for that reason then.

ill get some pics, it has had the triple slot removed and we just have a hole that the stereo sits in but needs a surround.

going to pull the dash in a min, cuppa and ***** first 🙂

and the airbox is going, this one is fubar, ordered some silicone hoses and air filter and will create yet another cold air induction system, plenty of air down in front on the pas headlight, already got 3inch ali pipes, so now waiting on the postie.

Nice, I'm about 15 mins away lol, no Ford any more though.  

I take it you didn't go to the Suffolkcarmeets meet at Clopton this morning?  Was a good meet...first time I've seen such a large range at a meet, from Audi R8s and Ferraris down to Lupos Clios.  Will keep an eye out for their future meets tbh.

Ah, that'll definitely be the issue!  I haven't got any pics of that area though unfortunately.

No Fords for me either, just fix hers, she's had mk2, mk3 escorts, mk1 focus and this mk6 fiesta, she's also had and she owns the dakar compact also, which she broke.

Clopton is somewhere I go every few weeks for work, got a few suppliers on the ind est, so I know it well, not been to a car meet for years, when is the next?

I'll ask one of the chaps at work as he mentioned a meet the other week over near jimmys farm, wonder if it was the same group?

Sounds like she's into Fords then!  I've probably seen the Dakar compact about as well...can't be many around locally!

I don't know when the next meet is, this is only the 2nd they've done I think!  Was meant to be one at Shotley a few weeks ago but the field got flooded so it was cancelled.  They're called Suffolkcarmeets on Facebook & Instagram so I'll keep an eye out on there, I guess this will be a regular venue now but not sure.  Haven't heard of any near Jimmy's Farm recently, not since Alive n VDubbin moved up to Bury a few years ago, wonder what that was.  Next proper show I'll aim to go to is Low Collective at Stonham Barns in a couple of weeks time.

All sorted, for now, not sure what caused the issue as it works fine but the additional cable ties make me suspicious! I'm sure she'll tell me if it does.

A new centre section for the exhuast and it should be sorted for a while.
