Mk 3 eco boost traction control issues

Featured Replies

Hey, just had the track rod and end done on my mk 3 eco boost but now randomly when I’m driving the traction control light comes on and the car started to feel like it’s slowing down almost, it’s not happening all the time but enough to be annoying/concerning.

Anyone any any ideas as to what it could be or how to fix it?

Cheers

Could be the hub/ reluctor ring or wheel sensor has been damaged cause a dodgy signal

Thanks, so you know if they’re difficult to check/do at all?

Sometimes on BMWs you have to recalibrate the steering angle sensor after messing with the tracking. If it’s not perfectly as it was, the car thinks you’re sliding around corners and cuts the engine power to stop it.

I think the focus has a steering angle sensor, so it could be a possibility.

Yeh it does seem to be worse going atriums corners, however weirdly enough I was out in the wet earlier and everything was fine 😕

Is the steering wheel dead straight when you drive in a straight line? If the tracking has been altered more on one side than the other the steering wheel can be tilted over. This is usually when issues arise, so it needs to be centred and then the sensor calibrated.

On the Mk3, you're also meant to reset the drift compensation after any steering changes, you might find the car wanders and feels odd in a straight line otherwise.  Annoyingly it's dealer only though, can't be done on Forscan, or at least it couldn't last year.

I'd suggest having the car scanned for faults, that'll tell you if there are any ABS issues for a start.  Will need to use Forscan or similar though, cheap OBD readers won't pick up ABS faults.
